Default Urgent! Help with noise in front end under threshold braking.

Today at a test and tune/ warmup for Topeka my 01 ITR developed a noise under heavy braking.

Background:
Installed new shocks 1 month ago
Ran 2 events and 1st half of today's test and tune without any problems.
The test and tune has been wet all day, so there has been plenty of ABS engagement.

Symptoms:

1. Under 8/10ths - 10/10ths a hard clanging noise happens. Usually one or two thuds then it stops.
2. The car behaves normal. Brakes are fine and nothing weird is going on with the handling.
3. You can feel the thud in the floor with your feet, both driver and passenger.
4. No noises under accleration or turn in.
5. Possibly some slight noise when transferring the weight from front to back after hard braking.
6. Nothing obviously loose in the suspension or brakes.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Shawn

Re-torque all your suspension bolts. Actually, pull them out, anti-seize and re-torque. Then check your axle nuts.

I would if I was not so lazy and had the same problem... Take out all the items placed in the car recently and put back in carefully inspecting each thing and using new grease.

But my fat *** would never do that

I've had the same problem for a while. I had the dealership take a peak and they said that the engine mounts needed to be retorqued. Afer a while the noise is back. I think it's more than mounts. I think it's somewhere in the suspension. I'm having the shop take a look on my next stop in for an alignment. If they come up with anything, I'll let you guys know.

It think I may have had the same problem. I'm running Mugen Lowdowns, 16" MF-10's w/215/45 Azenis.
Under hard braking (threshold braking) I would hear a loud ping or clang noise. Spectators at the autox could hear it too. I think it may have been the tire hitting my suspension in the rear? Not sure, but it hasn't happened ever since. It only happened when the Azenis tires were new. and it only happens with sticky tires. If I put my SP5000's on, the ABS will kick in.
