i forget which side but u change the cv boot from one side, like u take apart one joint and pull the otehr side joint boot off from the side u took the joint off. thats what i did, but make sure u have another one of those cb boot clips for the little balancer thingy on hte axles, that little rubber thing. u take apart the joint that doesnt have the ball bearing bearings, u take part the other side that comes out in a tri point thing and u pull hte boot from the ball bearing side out from the tri point side. get it ? do that for both sides. but this is from 90-93 teg axles idk if its different

i heard its not good to do cv boots yourself, that your better getting whole new axels if you want to do it yourself, and that dust gets inside no matter what and f* it up

if your boot has ripped and u been runnin it ripped for a while with no grease then your better getting a new boot, but if it hasnt ripped or it just ripped not to long ago, then just changing the boot is good. and theres nothing wrong with going it yourself as long as u do it right. i mean me changing the cv boot on my teg axles were the first time i did it, i did mess up because i thought u could take off the other side joint but u cant so i had to retake off the one side that the joint could come apart and just take off the other side boot by sliding it down to the side where teh joint could come off, i learned the hard way.

so how did you guys split the ball joint? i've got a c pillar splitter which won't latch onto the control arm because it's too bulky... I tried inverting the castle nut and whacking it with a lump hammer whilst the control arm was held down.. I spent 3 hours welding up a new balljoint puller which twisted up into a pile of crap after i used a metre long pole to tighten the bolt... wtf??? surely it can't be that hard to split the joint? any other ideas? or should I just try and get hold of a puller that will fit?

Look, NO offense to any of you but all you do is take the wheel off,

disconnect the hub bolt, pull the lower ball joint, once you have the Axel out, there is a cylinder looking piece that has three bearings inside. pull this apart,

Be careful to watch how this comes out because it will be a pain in the *** to have all three bearings to line up when putting back together. This is very, very messy.

There will be a three prong metal piece that the bearings just came off of and you need to clean the grease off and you will find a snap ring holding the three prong piece on the Axel. You need to remove this so you can get the boot off.

Once the boot is off,
put new boot on and put three prong piece back together and put new grease into new boot. Now the fun part. Clean all the bearings and put back on the three prong. slide cover over bearings ( this will suck because there is ONLY one way to put the bearings back on and it might take a while to have the bearings all line up.

I strongly suggest to wear gloves during this process. Before you put the bearings back on( sorry just thought about this one) take one of the bearings and see how to put into cover.

To ease some misled opinions, replacing the boot your self is perfectly fine. I have driven on a torn boot for 3-4 months before replacing and the boot and Axel is fine. I drive on track at 100+ and nothing wrong yet.

Knock on wood.

Have any questions, IM me.

Also you will need a special tool to clamp the ring on the boot. Go to local auto parts store and ask for CV boot tool. I can't remember the name. (sorry)
