Pronounced knocking in my engine..
I've only got 5,500 and its knocking....i'm going to call acura tommorow to get it fixed under warranty but should I take off my AEM Cai and bolt on my stock airbox (what a bitch!!) ? I dont think the CAI would have anything to do about causing the knock so they can't NOT fix it because of the cai...right?? I'm confused

The only thing the CAI can cause if hydro lock. Which I doubt is what happens if your still driving around. But have you went through alot water recently? If so was it enough to suck it into the engine? But if not then you should be ok. But I would take it off just incase..so theyc an't say anything about it.
it rained like last sunday but ui wasnt even here i was on vacation and the car was in the garage....hmm, i guess i'll take it over w/ the cai on and if they give me crap then i'll go put the stock air box back on...no need to put it back on if they wont say anything ya know?
What do you mean knocking? Does it sound like a friggin diesel engine? Is there enough oil in it? Be VERY careful with the car. I'd have it towed if it's seriously knocking or ticking.

DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER WITH YOUR CAI INSTALLED IF YOUR ENGINE IS KNOCKING!!!
THEY WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY SO FAST YOUR HEAD WILL SPIN! JUST AN FYI. NY ACURA DEALERS ARE THE BIGGEST DICKS IN THE DEALER NETWORK!

its not THAT bad but i was parked next to my friend's R and i drive my car pretty hard as opposed to him who doesnt drive it half as hard as I do...and his car is a 2000 and im a 2001 and yet when we had them running next to each other you could tell something was wrong w/ mine.....I'm going to call acura to set up and appointment, and im spending the afternoon reinstalling my stock airbox...thanks guys
I also had a loud knocking noise the acura dealer said i wasnt getting any oil in the top end of the engine come to find out went to SRD (shop that does my work) and it was just a loose intake cam bolt so check that.

You can still damage the engine by inhaling water without "locking" it. I was driving my 98 teg when I sucked in somewater in a deep puddle next to a curb, the car hesitated for a moment but keep going. 2 days later my first session on the track the motor started knocking. #3 rod was bent (from the water) .
NOTE: If the dealer won't cover it (which they will/should) Insurance will cover water ingestion depnding on the circumstances. ALSO take the AEM off the car just to avoid the hassle, its about a 20 minute job to swap then out.

Yeah i would take it off, better safe than sorry. And you'll only get one chance, if you go there and they bitch you can't take it off and come back saying "what intake".

wuts does it sound like when knocking?
i ask cause when my car warms up, at a certain rpm, it makes a weird sound. hard to explain, but i till try to take more note and explain tomorrow once i start my car up. The sound eventually goes away.

I've been wanting to tear it apart and have even been considering buying a new head, to rebuild this one and then sell it. I'll retorque all the bolts and see if that helps. I've been thinking it was fatigued springs or flat-spotted lobes but I haven't really nailed anything down for sure yet. Looks like I know what I'm doing tonight.
