Y8 swap in a 91 STD hatch QUESTIONS!
The blue plug on the back of the Y8 is the water temperature sensor im guessing?
How do i wire that into the 91 STD wiring harness? The old B1 block had the temp. sensor with the green and two prongs, and the Y8 has the plug.

The y8 Motor has the radiator fan switch built into the thermostst water outlet pipe.
You need to get the plug.
The blue plug on the back of the motor is the Knock sensor, not used in your application.
I'll put up a pic in a minute or two.

Here is the thermostst housing from your old motor.

And here is the thermostst housing from the Y8 motor.
The radiator fan switch is the Brown connector, hidden behind the hose on the right.

The new (Y8) water outlet (with the sensor in it) will NOT bolt up to your old thermo housing, and your old sensor (on the back of your old engine) will NOT screw into the threads of the new water outlet.
And here is a pic of the knock sensor. (Blue sensor, upper left)

And if you get the correct plug, buy a lower radiator hose for a '99 civic ex, your old hose will fit, but it'll be a stretch, the ex hose fits like a glove.

so u saying that the water temp sensor that its on the B2 block will not screw to the Y8 block even if he takes that plug off the block?????

I think what he was saying is you cannot take your old temp sensor and screw it into the thermostat housing of the Y8. The old temp sensor will screw into that plug in the Y8 block.
alright i finally got back around to working on this..and the temp sensor isnt going into that hole the plug covers...i dont have the y8 thermo housing either...i think im going to end up drilling and welding a bung onto my a6 thermo housing and running the temp sensor that way...think it will work??
You're in the same boat I was, but for different reasons.
I had the new plug, the new housing, and all of that crap.
But if you look at the SIZE of the Y8 thermo housing, it's bigger and it actually interfered with my A6 JRSC Intake Manifold bolting up to my new Y8 motor...
That, AND the oil breather chamber is bigger on the Y8.
I had 2 options.
Modify the Y8 housing.
Or
Go to a junkyard and find one from a '92-'95. (I was told it was just like the A6 in size, but never I never checked it out)
Lucky for me, I'm a machinist. I milled the **** out of the Y8 housing, and pressed in new shorter hose pipes.

You've got to hit a junkyard or find someone who's yanked out a '92-'95 motor.
With the junkyard, you can get the plug too.

You don't have the thermostat housing?
Or you don't have the water outlet? (the part with the sensor screwed into it)
I can't believe you don't have the thermo housing at all.
Just go to the junkyard and get that water outlet part with the sensor in it, and clip the wire plug too.
Any '96 - '00 should fit just dandy.
Part #5 - $9.99
Part #12 - $25.99
