Missing plugs// can I pass emissions? OBDII
Can a car pass emissions test with the Charcoal Canister unplugged?? I think my EVAP purge valve is also not hooked up.
I got a 98 Civic EX running a LSVTEC with 99-00 SI harness and ECU. Everything is wired to work, except my Charcoal Canister. There isn't a plug for it, and I have to take my car to get the emissions tested.
TIA

I would say no but i could be wrong, if you live in cali then you probably won't because from what i read they are VERY strict about emissions

Thanks for the reply.
I'm from Seattle, and from what i understand, they plug something into the OBDII diagnostic port to read the emissions.
I think I'm screwed.
Anyone else have an opinion?
TIA

Just a quick, why? Why would you unplug the charcol canister? Is there any benfit?
And, in NJ the state just stated advertising on the radio that, they have this special new equipment that taps into any OBD 2 cars, although they don't say "OBD2", they say "any car built after 1995". That they can now tell
what's "really" going on with your cars emmision systems or something to that effect. LOL And NJ isn't anywhere near as strict as some other states. AS of yet anyway.

i guess i am screwed. the reason its unplugged because im using a 99-00 SI harness in my 98 civic. the plug for it isnt connected to the engine harness on the SI.

The obd2 connector is located on the drivers side kickpanel, you don't need to remove the kickpanel it's right there.
Remove one of the pins, cut a wire, plug it up with chewing gum or otherwise sabotage it.
The technician making seven bucks an hour, with one half hour of training on the equipment, will give up, and then all you ahve to pass is the sniffer.
Just make sure you don't have a blatant CEL/MIL. Also, if you're really worried, pull the negative batter cable, or the fuse, to reset the ecu, that will clear it's "memory"

I was thinking about this. But i was worried that if they couldnt get the readings from the obd2 connector, then they wouldnt pass me because they would consider it (the OBD2 system) "defective"???
Well, thanks guys for all your input. I'm gonna try to wire the canister up somehow.
