exhaust manifold woes!@?@?@?@?
Stock b16 exhaust manifold in a crx, add to that-- h&r sports recently added. I smacked the b pipe really hard on the ground a few weeks ago, and i think it got bent up. When it hit, it stripped out a few of the manifold studs. I couldnt get it to seal tight at the flange, every time it kept leaking and being loud.....finally i get it fixed with new studs and gasket maker.
Last night (2 wks after finally fixing) I lightly hit bottom again and immediatly heard an exhaust leak. This mornign i went walking back down the road and found the manifold stud still in one piece. However, this time it had all the manifold threads still in it, and the stud wasnt stripped at all.
So.... the flange threads are apparently stripped out.... what can i do? Do i have to buy a new 'a' and 'b' manifold pipes, or do i have other options...... ?????
Please help, i am moving into my new appt tomorrow which is an hour away from home!!!

open exhaust, right out of the block. u gotta get new studs and u gotta have the head retaped because u stripped out the threads in the head so u gotta retap it or else it wont sit tight. so retap and all new studs. and drive slower the reason u bottoming out is because your driving too fast
No the reason is the car is too low! If you have hit it hard enough to pull the manifold studs out, RAISE THE CAR!!! TOO LOW FOR STREET USE!!!
if its the stud that connect the manifold to the down pipe..
You can use a longer bolt and put a nut on the other side...
put a lock washer on it..and feed the bolt down from the top..

The manifold has 3 studs, and if its stock and he put the bracket that connects the manifold to the bottom of the block then those would be the studs to break...

but correct me if im wrong, if he hit the stock mani, he probably has oil pan damage too. oh u mean the bottom of the mani. idk i have headers so i use bolts to connect the bottom half, i dont know what the stock looks like

umm no, i was doing 25 mph down my road which i travel every day, and never hit in that spot before......odd

its a 1.5 inch drop on a crx, still have about 2 inch gap between tire/fender, b16 exhaust hangs down like a mother

Thats what i was thinking, i will give that a whirl, thanks for the advice man.

HOw many headers can u fit on a 4 cylinder?
The stock exhaust is two pieces, the exhaust manifold (4 into 2) and the 'b' pipe (2-1) which connects to the cat. The 'b' pipe is considerably lower than the oil pan. When that hits, the only place it can give is the connection of the exhaust manifold and the downpipe, and the studs are usually the weakest link. This time it was the threads inside the manifold holes.

If your staying N/A, this is a good excuse to invest in a header
Its been a while, but there are a few 4-2-1 headers that are designed to fit
snugly under the oil pan. Been a long time since ive looked at n/a parts, but
im sure someone can recommend something.

AMEN!! Speak the truth my brotha. Raise you car bro

I have the same springs he does, and its still to high, rasiing it would put it back to stock height, or higher. Its not a big drop at all. I dont think thats his problem. Its his road. And you cant just raise up lowering spring.

Yeah, i was dissapointed when i lowered the car, because there wasn't much of a difference. However, i see it is plently low enough now because i never had to worry about dips in the road before. It wasn't that i was going fast (25mph), just a patch in the road and i hit it at a bad angle i guess
I plan on going FI in the future so i dont really wanna spend the money on an aftermarket header. Although i would like one
Anyhow, putting the longer bolt through there fixed it. IF it happens again i will probably end up buying a new manifold/pipe. Thanks for the help guys!!
