No, I'm not putting on one of those cheesy covers, I'm replacing the release button and I can't find in my Helms how to remove the handle first. I'd really like to avoid having to use brute force so any help will be much appreciated.

 

Brute force is The Way.

Grab hard, twist, and pull. That's how it comes off.

yup... just take your time.

 

When I replaced mine, I gently put the end of a flathead under the handle and sprayed a coat of WD-40 underneath then just twist side to side and pull off
