Changing driver side axel 97 b16 civic
Okay my friends axle was popping so he asked my other friend if he could change it. Anyway he goes to pull it out and part of it comes out. when it came out the bearings (i think) were exposed. I thought the axle was stuck so I asked a mechanic at the shop across from mine if he had any idea to get it out. He told me that i had to take off two bolt and it would come out then. The thing I pulled out has a bearing on it and a bracket that attaches to the block Then a long *** shaft that i guess goes in the tranny. my ? is how do we go about getting that bracket off? and put a new one in? The car is a 97 civic 4-door with a 99 US B16 and 98 GSR front suspension if that helps. I am pretty new to workin on Honda's and wish they were as easy as old school cars.

I dont know which bracket you are talking about, but if the axle is stuck just use a pry between it and the intermediate shaft or place where its stuck. There are little metal rings aroung the splines that lock it in place.

i found out that they shaft with it is the intermediate shaft. I guess I am gonna have to pry the **** out of it. I hope.
Leave the intermediate shaft on the car where it is, and use a nice 3lb sledgehammer. Getting your aim right, you can smack the CV axle strategically to where it'll be separated in 5 seconds. I had a helluva time with this last week, until I tried the hammer approach. Who cares if you screw the old axle up with a sledgehammer?
