Default Best competitive setup for '92 Civic hatch in SM

Just wondering how competitive a hybrid hatch in Street Mod could be. What setup would you do? Give me some ideas on suspension, NA/turbo/sc, etc

Thanks,
Todd

Almost everything Ausmith has done to place him into DMod but retain the required interior pieces.

My opinion:

1) Don't turbo or s/c the car

2) Get it as freaking lightweight as possible. I'd rather subtract 150 lbs from the car than add 25 hp.

Can you get a 92-95 hatch under 1900lbs in SM form? If you could, it would be a serious contender. This probably means no B-series swap though.

true and he tends to bust other peoples chit as well

remember him doing in the ATS civic (Yasus' car) at the expo

if it's his own it just tends to be axles.

all in fun though, I'd trust him in my car any time

as well his civic is well thought out, setup and extremely potent

he breaks stuff true BUT, he can fix it usually before his next run and he wins

rodney's away message at any given day of the week "out working on the car." my favorite is when he sends me a link to pics of the car with nothing in it. im like 'when is this from?' and he'll say "last night. i had to do/remove/reinstall.....'
but in all seriousness, with some more power, i think he'll be able to catch the bimmers...and daddio.rodney has been doing well against some fast people both locally and at the big events. i might have to come huntin-for-honda with one of my rented subarus
NA+4.98+nutty clutch type diff= a good start. im not sure what his car weighs, but i dont think an eg will get to sub-2000 in SM trim. a cx would be the way to go with no sunroof, the fiberglass/carbon fiber hood and fenders will hepl get the weight down. buckets (aluminum, FG or CF will also help get the weight down. choosing suspension is your own preferance. something in the range of 10kf/r to start. ill let rodney take over from here. hes the expert.

what happen? you rev on a ricer and break a motor mount??

rodney's car goes like a scalded cat on speed. but i don't think he'll be catching daddio real soon. full bodied cars aren't so competitive in CM.

Hey Todd- I had the same question too. I had a lot of responses, so here is the link to it: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=572795

I'll be in Omaha Sunday and Monday this weekend, my dad and I are bringing the corvette to race. There is a drag race on sunday, followed by a track day at Mid-America motorplex on Monday. You should stop by if you're gonna be around....

Actually, you can have a sc'd SOHCVTEC DX under 2000#. And it works quite well against rodney. But he'll tell you I'm a ***** for bailing on the class....and my car.

I think a built and sc'd SOHC would rock....but it'll cost close to what rodney has invested...BTW, 2000# was with no A/C, stock seats, stock hood and an sc'd D16. I don't think one could get the car below 1900# legally...close though, especially with some carbon seats, composite hood, some comp engineering front lower control arms, very lightweight wheels, hoosiers, super duper brakes with lightweight calipers...cha-ching$.....you get the picture

well, its Street Mod...its SUPPOSED to be expensive if you want to win.

if you want to be cheap, STS EF civics are a dime a dozen.... $5,000 can give you a cool jacket in Kansas.

In my local auto-x group- Spokes - I can have a fully gutted interior. I have not been to an SCCA event and haven't read the rule book. I take it from the previous posts, that I would need to put all interior panels and carpet back into my car to stay in the SM class?

yeah kk5g has the life. you should see his kickass house.

the 5g was giving him grief. i think jay just got fed up after blowing shocks, balljoints, sc belts not staying on.. if he spent a little more time with the car and used hondata to dial it in, it would've been sick. he was sooo close to rodney and hoeh.

See? It's so broken (err I mean he's so busy working on it)

Wait till he posts up some pics. He's pretty busy gettin ready for this weekends shakedown before nationals. I stopped by the other day to check the progress and B.S. a bit. Chris can explain and show you though, it's his "Patchwork" baby!

Just remember, it used to be all one color. And even won a car show or two, way back in the JDM blingness days...

Yo Todd!
The index is particularly brutal for hybrid EGs in SM. You'd have to really have that car rockin' to contend, because you'd have to be FASTER than everyone out there.

I agree with what whatshisface said up there (i can't remember who said it!) about Clayton's EG. What RJ said is true also, only the rear seats can come out, but everything in front of that can come out. (not sure about passenger door panels) So, talk to Clayton while you wait for rodney to come back from his kaa.

Well here is my setup, i am competative at the local level, with a few more years expierence i feel it could go even higher

i have .....

1992 civic CX
B16A1 with the HASport mount kit
ghetto fab intake, DC 4-2-1,
2.25in exaust with a SWEET can,heh
reprogrammed ecu with launch limiter
GC 380F/450R with KYB AGX's
NO sway bars
13X9 diamond racing wheels with KUMHO Ectsa V700's in 235/45/13

and thats about it, I bought the car for cheap, total in mods id say ive got about 3500. I wanted to be competative on a budget and i feel I am. I have set a couple FTD's and am in top 3 every eventin a field of 7-12 cars.

What i usually run against in SM... a few DSMs one that runs in the mid 12's on stock turbo, and two that run in the high 12's. All 3 are fully prepared for atuto X, with very good drivers.

I would like to get a JRSC for more power, that seems to be where my car gets beat. I get beat a lot on expierence, but hey the car is onyl as good as the crazy behind the wheel.

Good luck to ya.

Do you have stock brakes? I'm guessing you have to have somewhat stock calipers and rotors since you fit a 13" wheel/tire setup.

although you seem to have a pretty good setup, to be nationally competitive in SM, IMO, I don't think that'll do it.

I forgot to mention that. Yes I run stock calipers and rotors with axxis ultimate pads. The braking is more than adequate for auto X. Not nearly enough for track days. I kept this brake setup to fit the 13's because face it 13's are cheap.

I totally agree with you. This car doesnt have enough to compete nationaly but then again, neither does the driver, heh . I'm only sticking with the bubble butt one more year tho after that I hope to move to BS but this all could change of course.

OT: But while we are on the SM prep topic, I have a question.

What kind of spring rates are the top SM/SP Honda guys running? I've been running 10kg front and 14kg rear, and may jump up to 14kg front and 18kg rear. Would this be too much for autocross?
