what are some good performance cams for an SOHC?
I know there are tons out there for the DOHC like Toda and Jun, but I would like to get some for my exand I don't think Toda even makes a cam for the SOHC engine. Prices and reliability would be nice.
webcam, jg, gude, i think hks makes one, crane, i think both crower and comp cams do too, paeco pretty sure they all make cams for the sohc engine, oh yeah forgot jun think they do to

ZEX makes a good one....The same company that makes NOS. Check them out. A SOHC cam alone won't give you the pazzaz you are looking for but it's a start.
Thanks,
Yeah, I know. Turbo is going to be the next step, but I was wondering about cams for my car just in case I decide to go another step.

u gotta be careful with your cam selection if u are going to go turbo. turbo's don't like too much overlap. i would probably stick with the stock cam and after u go turbo than maybe look into getting a cam
stock honda cams with turbos work very very well. Although i hear JG makes a really nice reground turbo cam for sohc....

On a stock, unfortified setup like yours, there are several things to keep in mind. First of all, the stock rods are an immediate handicap. This is inherent in almost all Honda engines, the rods are the weakest link - especially those on SOHC engines like your D16Z.
Secondly, I am assuming you are not running an intercooler since you did not mention one. If this is so, careful attention must be paid to the cylinder temperatures. If cylinder temperatures become too high, detonation will occur. The amount of fuel supplied also contributes to temperature levels. Generally, a rich fuel condition is cooler than a lean fuel condition. Fuel delivery can be improved quickly and easily through the simple additions things like a fuel riser or upgraded injectors.
With all this in mind, provided that you have a properly maintained engine, no intercooler, and a stock fuel system - I recommend that you keep max boost pressure to 9lbs and choose your Turbo wisely. ( I would go with Greddy)

while ur talking about turbo, i ordered the greddy turbo with my engine at 145k(sohc), what other accessories would i need with my turbo kit to most assure me that nothing will happen to my motor, right now all i have on it is intake and exhaust and sway bars.

Anyways, contact GUDE performance for SOHC stuff. Stay away from JG (Junk Grind).

They are not NOS is owned by Holley performance system's. ZEX is privately owned and operated. As much as I have seen I am not impressed with the ZEX kit, but than again I just read some customer testimonials on there site.
Thanks for the info fellas. I didn't mention an intercooler because I don't have the kit yet, but I will want an intercooler to complement the turbo. I also plan on getting a MSD ignition and larger injectors(have no idea what size by the way). I am leaning to the greddy now, because of it's streetability. With all of this that I am planning, you guys think a Gude cam will do fine?
