Default Got some ZC and A6 questions.

Ok I found a DOHC ZC for $545. I decided I am probably going to do this swap since my A6 is burning a little oil. My question is can I use my Si A6 tranny and ecu on the ZC. Do these bolt right up to the motor? Also I have a turbo manifold for my A6 for the turbo setup I got, does this bolt up to the ZC? How hard is it to rebuild my A6 Si tranny? My 3rd gear syncro is bad. Also I can get the ZC tranny with the motor for $55 more, should I just get it? I heard the Si tranny was a better tranny to use especially for turbo apps.

I also for got to ask where do I find the aftermarket supposrt for the ZC. Like where do I find aftermarket cams? I'm pretty sure most of the D series stuff works on the ZC correct?

ZC is pretty difficult to find parts for, but check out http://www.thezcresource.com for more info

Yes your tranny and ECU will work fine. As for CAMs there are a couple places that make them such as I think "Webber" or something like that. It had Web in the name.

Well first yes you can use the Si ECU and tranny and it will all bolt right up. BUT if you can get the ZC tranny for only $55 bucks more I would get it thats cheap even if it isnt the best tranny for turbo apps it still is a nice tranny none the less. As for rebuilding it sorry cant be any help there. Plus if you do get the ZC tranny you can make a Si/ZC hybrid tranny which is taking out the 5th and final drive out of your Si and putting them into the ZC so then you would have a really nice tranny and not have to worry about your 3rd gear grind.....And yes the turbo mainfold will bolt onto the ZC as well. Oh and just for your info some people prefer the DX tranny for turbo apps....

What if I just took the 5th gear out of the zc tranny ( I heard it is good for highway use) and put it in my Si tranny. Would this work? Also could I use the ZC 3rd gear syncro for my si tranny or would it be better to just buy a new syncro?

You have it backwards you use the Si 5th and final drive in the ZC trans to lower the highway rpms.

ZC 5th gear is not good for the highway. When I'm in 5th doing 80 im at 4k RPMS. Thats a lot. It was like 2k something for my DX.

I do about 3500 on my DX tranny around 80, there's no way you were at 2k doing 80

hmmm, that actually sounds pretty close to what the rpm's in my SI trans is at going 80 mph

also if want some ZC camshafts, try hitting up a guy here exospeed something, he can offer you custom regrounds made to your needs
