r12 refrigerant. Authorized dealers, only selling to certified and authorized Technicians. r12 is nasty to the ozone layer, that is why the government is now putting a mandate how to distribute it. Basically forcing everyone to use 134a. It's not that hard to do the conversion anyway.

I didn't say r-12...I said "freeze 12" which does NOT harm the ozone layer....please read post before responding. I can get freeze 12 off eBay but I didn't want to pay for shipping...

I heard Walmart sells canisters of Freeze12 for around $8 (but I have only seen it in Wisconsin Walmarts at this price).

You can buy it direct {if you are certified} @ http://www.freeze-12.com

If you are not certified,go to http://www.imaca.org/ and you can get a certification{it is easy}
FYI:When you get certified,They use your social security as the ID number <hint>

Freeze-12 is a drop in replacement for R-12,I have used it for a while now with no problems..It cools really well until the outside temp goes over 100 degrees or more,And even then it makes it quite bearable.

The good thing about "freeze 12" is tha you do not need certification..where as with r-12 you need to have certification.

I am not sure if the law is different in Florida,
but in Texas,(where Freeze-12 is produced BTW) certification is required.
QUOTE from distributors catalog:
"Certification is required by the EPA to purchase this refrigerant"

I see Freeze-12 or equivalents at just about any decent sized autostore these days. You need an EPA certification to buy Freon(R-12)

My understanding is that Freeze12 just R-134 with additives that prevent the volatile reaction that normally occurs when mixing R-12 and 134.

It's not some magic new replacement...it just removes the evac and purge step of the old R12 to R134 conversion. A top off with Freeze12 will probably work better then a full R134 conversion because you're still using some R12.
And R12 works better than R134...yes, it's true, don't bother arguing that point

i thought the ban on R12 was not because it was dangerous, but because DuPont patent was almost up so they made R134 so they can have all the sales...i guess the patent is almost up for R134 if you say they are going to be doing the same thing again...

DuPont= Scumbags...

Freeze 12 isnt r12.....but it works supposedly.............

I offer a service for people in Southern California..........

100 bucks will get you 2 pounds of Genuine Virgin r12 Freon inlcuding labor to put it in your car..........

If you suspect your a/c system has a leak............im not responsible for lost freon
