Default What's a reasonable price for a D16A6 Si engine/tranny?

What is a reasonable price to pay for a 88-91 Si engine/tranny? D16A6 right? I have a local guy selling one as a full swap (header, ecu, wiring, etc.) for $500. Though I don't need all of that, (mostly just want tranny and engine) it would be nice to have extras while I build up my race engine.

Is $500 too much or is that a good deal? He says it is in good running condition though I will be re-building it to SCCA ITA specs anyway.

thanks guys

It depends on miles and where you're at. If the motor isn't stripped, I'd say that's about fair. I mean, if you add up the parts.. 350-400 for engine/tranny, 50 for wiring, 50 for the ecu... plus bonus for a good motor you're fine. However, have you checked out the ZC? Just a little costlier, Like 750. They bolt right in, use existing wiring... etc. It was in the JDM Si... those have an inherntly smoother rev due to their DOHC nature... however I don't know the limits of your class.

$500 is way too much, you can pick up a Z6 for that price

Well I can't put anything else in my car except for the stock engine/tranny part numbers, though I can modify it according to the rule-book.

So $500 too high? I figured adding all the parts together, engine, tranny, header (DC), ecu, wiring, everything else for swap (could even have spare axles, that would be nice) would come to about $500.

it's really a tough call, I guess it would be close - the tranny is worth about $100, harness another $75-100, dizzy another $50-75, Intake mani another $50-75, ECU another $30-50

so it's really up to you and how soon you want it, truthfully I say you wait and find a better deal

Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate it. My only thing is I'm having trouble locating one, and I need a tranny right now as my current one is having 2nd-3rd gear shift problems. The best deal I could find was $150-$200 shipped from someone on HT. So there I've blown maybe $200 just for a tranny when I could get everything else for $300 more and it's relatively local to me so I can go check it out and inspect it before buying, and not worry about shipping.

I think I'll still go pick this swap up and maybe offer then a little less and see if they take it
thanks guys

ben, the price is a little high but here on h-t, everyone seems to find killer deals...or so they say...

but here is what i would do.
1. offer a lower price (i'd say $400) and work from there
2. part out the piece you don't need. wiring harness, dist, manifolds, etc. then maybe you end up paying $200 for the motor and tranny which wouldn't be bad at all.

remember that if you are going to build this motor, the good running part of it doesn't mean jack, really. personally, i want to find a motor that burns some oil so i can pay less (or pay nothing at all ) and rebuild it...

I agree talk him down if you can if not look up all of the stuff you dont need on ebay see what kind of prices you can get for the stuff you dont need deduct that from the $500 and it will come out to being a hell of a lot cheaper than you actually think. When you add up everything from a complete swap everything does add up so even if you end up paying the $500 I dont think its a bad deal...Consider this say you do find one for like say $300 well if its far away that you cant pick it up you have to pay for shipping which would be atleast around $100 bucks so right there its up to $400 and most likely the one you picked up for $300 isnt a complete swap so you wont have all of the extra parts to either use or sell. But you were saying you need the tranny (150-200) and that axles would be nice to have extras of (about $200) so just between the tranny and the axles your looking at between 350-400 alone why not pay the extra 100-150 and get the motor, ecu, wiring, etc....

$500 is a little high, but if the engine is running good and it comes w/ the DC header you said, then it isn't too bad of a deal. maybe try and talk him down some.
