Default Problems with 88 DX...

Well, I have an 88 Civic DX sedan (5spd) as my beater and lately it's been having problems. I'll be driving it fine but at random times I'll be in a gear and the car will start to shake a little (almost like stalling) and then the engine will just cut out. It will even happen when I'm going 65-70mph in 5th on the freeway. I know it can't be the clutch, which was my original assumption, because it was replaced 4 days ago. Shouldn't be the battery or alternator because the car still has power running thru it.
Any insight as to what could be the problem? TIA

Sounds like it could be your distributor.

Thats what I was thinking 2 possible thing in your dizzy....Your coil, or your ignitor.

Alright, thanks for the tips guys. I've also talked to The Bee Guy who had his distributor on his CRX go out so he gave me some pointers to try to solve the problem.
I'll also be replacing the fuel filter and cap/rotor this weekend, and also mess with the dist. to see if the bearings are alright.

Any other input would be much appreciated.

it could be a number of things. but it happened to my friends car (86 CRX) and he had a bad igniter. also the post about your fuel filter could also be accurate. but i would defenitely open your distributor first.

Well, just thought i'd update on my car. I went ahead and replaced the cap/rotor, plug wires and fuel filter (still waiting for the spark plugs to come in). Since getting the stuff in I've driven about 220miles in city and highway, in cold and hot weather with no problems. So my guess was that it was most likely the filter but for the low prices it was better to just do everything fresh
Thanks for the tips guys
