Default Engine question....

Can someone tell me the difference between the DX engine and HF engine...I mean just the long bock...I know that the manifolds are different...I just bought a 88 civic hb for $260 and it has a blown head and its a 4 sp....I planning to change the tranny to a 5 sp DX tranny and change the DX long block to a HF longblock...I just wanted to know if the HF motor will work fine w/ the DX components...

So basically you want to put the intake manifold and such from the DX and put in onto the HF head/block right?? So you want to take a MPFI engine and make it DPFI correct?

No, I am just going to swap out the DX long block for the Hf Longblock only...wil the HF longblock run with the DX manifolds...

The DX intake is DPFI the HF is MPFI so in turn you would be making an MPFI motor DPFI. But yes the HF long block will work with the DX's manifolds.....

I would not do that. If you look at the ports on the HF head you will notice that they are MUCH smaller, and will not match you intake manifold. Just find either a DX or Si longblock here on honda-tech. You will be much better off. But if you need to di it, the answer is yes it will work, but it may even be slower than just a good old HF, and I mean SLOW.

hey my badd...yes i'm doing what u said...well right now i only have an HF block, and I want to use it because i need the car to run...i can to other stuff to it later...so u guys are saying that the car is going be slow...thats cool...but is the engine going to be throwing any codes on the ecu if I get it running????
