HELP with tranny after switching final drive/counter shaft
tranny's: 89dx, and i put a si final ring gear and complete counter shaft, everything else stayed the same.
I originaly had a problem with the bearings on countershaft and swithced those and the case came together without problem. The problem I have now is that when the top of the case is put on, the car will not go into fifth or reverse. I have figured out that when the case goes all the way down, it pushed on the 5th/reverse shifter fork shaft. this in turnpushes down onthe fifth reverse shift piece and makes it very difficult for the shift arm inbetween the interlock to go into the fifth reverse shift piece. All this equipment is original to this case, so I just cant figure out the problem here!!! I am considering shaving down the fifth reverse shift piece so that the shift arm goes into it smoother, however I dont think that this is the solution here.
sorry for the novel,
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thank you.

a quick note,
when the case is off, everything works fine. I can go through all gears without a hitch. It is only when I put the case down that final 1/16 of an inch when the case seems to push the selecter fork rod down.

i had the same problem and i can't remember what it was. the one thing to check is to make sure the reverse idler gear isn't on upside down...
thanks keithv, i did check that the reverse idler gear is on right and it is. So unfortunately, I'm still stuck. If you remember anything else, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
thank you
