Default clarification of trim level rules for HC

the '03 rules state that you can 'swap' everything out of a H3 prepared GS-R into an LS Tub, and it'll still be classified as a GS-R in H3. The only time you can't do this is when the new tub has a advantage over the old one, like turning an H2 type R into an H3 GS-R (because of the improvements in reinforcement in the body)

The only significant difference between a 4th gen prelude S, SI, and VTEC is the engine and the front brakes. ALL other differences are removable or changable such as ABS, leather, power windows, etc.

Does this rule only apply to repairing a wrecked vehicle? Could the conversion to a VTEC from an S or SI only occur in the event of a wreck? The reason I ask is that 4th gen VTEC's are VERY VERY hard to find, (only a precious few were imported compared to most other hondas) and I would much rather buy a 1992 or 1993 prelude S, and switch over a H22 from a 1993 VTEC and the front rotors & calipers. Would that be legal?

I may be pushing my luck, but if it IS legal, could i use a 1992 tub? (just for the sake of cost) The VTEC model was not available in 1992, but the tub is the EXACT same as 1993-1996. the H22 and larger brakes were added in 1993 as another trim level, but in its bare form its all the same car.

technically what you are doing is creating an H1 car.....

but....currently there is a 92 or 94 prelude with an obd2 h22a4 in his tube....technically not leagal but there is no performance gain by doing this so if i was in charge of rules i would let your car in because there is no performance gain by doing what you are doing.....but when it does create a performance gain then it should be deemed illegal

If you were to take an H22A1 and the appropriate brakes, put them into a 1992 prelude S, and fully prepare the vehicle for H2.... and line it up next to an original VTEC model that has been fully prepared, the ONLY way anyone could tell would be the VIN#, the askew redline on the stock tach, and if it was a color that wasn't available as a VTEC. The only performance gain would be if white cars are faster then red cars.

I need a definate answer on this before I go out a build a race car though

what you're attempting to do should be considered a tub-swap, not a hybrid.

i asked karl a similar question recently. i have (had) a 96 ex civic coupe auto - i have since converted to manual, swapped in a b16a2, and swapped in si rear discs. other than interior, body pieces, etc, the shells (tubs) are the same. the car will hopefully run in h3 as an si (finances permitting).

ask karl, you should get the same response.

good luck.

yeah, you should be ok. I am doing the same kind of thing: putting a Si engine in a 91 DX civic tub. Only difference is that I won't have a sunroof (which, under the rules, can be removed, and the roof re-skinned). The only difference will be the VIN and the color (it's DX-blue)
I'll be in H4, getting my *** handed to me by CRX SIs - and just about anybody with more track experience (since I have no race experience, I expect to be DFL for the fist few races )
