Flex Additive
i was wondering if the flex additive was supposed to be added to the primer or the actual paint. not really sure what it is just know that i need it on the lip and sides. thanks
bump, i need to know too, and if you dont know what it is slowej you put it in the paint so the paint will flex w/out cracking, so if you have a body kit or paint the trim on your car it wont crack if the piece moves.
reason im asking is because im trying to get a lip from someone, and he offered to sand it down and primer it. so im wondering if the primer needs flex additive.
Flex add usually goes into the primers. puting them into the base color can alter the color depending on what type of paint. putting them in the clear can cause dieback(loss of gloss).
Flex add only allows a certain amount of time for your paint to flex. after awhile the flex add evaporates out of the paint.

they mix the flex additive in the paint and clear coat if you request it.

Okay the thing is, if you're getting a bc/cc (Base coat/Clear coat) urethane paintjob, then you don't really have to worry about flex add because urethane is flexible to some extent.
I have added Flex add into a Single Stage paint before without problems, but the color was white for a honda civic. If it were metalic, i wouldnt use it, same with pearls etc...

yeah, flex additive is only used for assembly.
Like, if you painted the bumper off the car and were going to throw it around while putting it on the car. Once fully assembled, the additive will evaporate, as stated above.
Test the lip fitment. If it's good, then just paint it. If it's not, then make it fit right, and then paint it.
If you hit something hard enough, it's gonna scratch/chip regardless
