I was there the next day, the 24th. I saw the white civic, but didn't as what happened. I had a lot of fun. I've run the #25 config a lot of times, but never w/ the star mazda turn; it's funky, but makes the esses a lot faster (read: more fun!).
I ran a 2.17.9 during my one timed session.

I was the guy with the silver CRX on A rated tires for temperature, and tread wear!

Or you can think of me as the guy with the least amount of horsepower, and traction!

Were you that silver Prelude with the open header? What mods do you have? I was there both days with my black Prelude. It was my second time out there. The best I ran on the second day was a 2:21.1. I've got TEIN HA, 215 Azenis, Progress 27mm Rear Anti-Roll Bar and AEM Cold Air Intake; 3124 pounds with driver.

Here's a video of my fast lap: Buttonwillow Race #25 CCW (21.5 MB)

PS. Special thanks to Andie at Cobalt Friction. The GTR.spec-VR pads that he sent me worked absolutely amazing. It was 90+ F at Buttonwillow and I saw rotor temps in the upper 200 Celsius, and this was after a full cool-down lap and a few minutes in the paddock! Absolutely no fade at all with very consistent feel. The cold stopping power isn't too bad either, and I've put almost 1000 street miles on them. Pads still look like new.

Yah, that was me. I was just running the b-pipe.

Not much. Just ha's, stock anti-roll bars, stock intake, dc header, and I was on 215 45 azenis , too. That 2.17.19 was running CCW (not CW like in the picture that you show), and I was also running the cobalt spec vr pads. They didn't fade at all coming off the backstrech, I was pleased, but my fluid went away toward the end. Nonetheless the pads didn't show any fade.

My car is about 3000lbs with me in it, and a full tank.

Those pictures are from the 23'rd. We ran Race Configuration #1 CW. On Sunday they ran #25 CCW. The video and laptime is from Sunday, which is the same configuration you ran.

I couldn't get too many clean laps on Saturday, and I terminated one of my last sessions because I went off-course, got shaken up and I wanted to just retire early for the day. I think I got a 2:28 or something...

Yah, my buddy went off at the esses , pretty damn fast and managed to pull the tire halfway off his wheel (thankfully the tireshop was open), but his car is a sandbox, through and through. I only ran timing one session, and it was in my second to last session. I was running in blue group, and moved into red toward the end of the day -- running in red was really nice , hardly any cars on track , and everyone was moving! Open passing is so fun. I did realize that I need to get on r compunds next time out; not saying I'm some sort of pro, but from the feedback I got, I'm guessing I could have a seccond or two off my lap times.

PS: Which group were you in?

You looked like your having a good time in the infield.

There were alot of offs on sat. I don't know if speedventure events are always like that. Anybody else know?

At the driving concepts schools there 1 to 2 a day, were at speedventures it seemed like there were about 15 or so.. including me.

Nammyboy: How did the steering wheel feel on track?

All the other events that I've ran w/ speedventures (and when they were bitterman time trials) they don't have a lot of "off's," on average. I think it's just a combination of a new track and new drivers, or people just pushing too hard, or getting caught out. SV, in my experience, has been a really safe group and their events aren't as crowded as other I've attended.

Really.. thats interesting..

I came away feeling that it wasn't a very safe event, very little was gone over for safety, especially for the beginners. They just kind of threw everyone out there, and let them on the track. Many people were passing on both sides in the yellow and white group, and not getting black flagged. Then at the end of the day I there was passing in the middle of the turns. Which I don't think is cool especially for one of my buddies who it was there first time on track. If we did not bring out own instructor I would have felt very uneasy with him on the track.

Other then that I was pretty cheap and a ton of fun..

Hmmm. YOu should email them, seriously. And tell them how the organization came off to you. That sounds really dangerous about the passing mid corner, really dangerous! Did you stay for the extended begineer driver meeting? Honestly, you should email them your thoughts.

Yeah I was there for the extended meeting, they went over flags, I think it would have been nice if they would have had the flags there..

that just seemed like the general feeling of the day...

I think Buttonwillow is one of the safest tracks to have an off. Personally, knowing that the worst that can happen if I go off is a dusty car, I wasn't as afraid to push my car to its limits. This could be the same reason other people had their share of bunker shots. As for safety, I think SpeedVentures is pretty relaxed about stuff, but I didn't see anything too unsafe. I didn't like how some people from the red group bled into my group and ran circles around me. Not that I mind if they run, but I can't get a clean lap when I have to slow down for a point by. I did pass a white ITR mid-turn at Star Mazda, and that was completely by accident. I was going 90+ mph out of the Esses and the ITR slowed down way more than I thought he was going to, so instead of rear-ending him, I took a different line into the Star Mazda turn and passed him. I hope he didn't get too pissed .

The steering wheel itself is whatever. I like the way it looks and everything, but the primary reason for getting the wheel was so that I could use a spacer. The steering wheel sits 2 inches closer to me, and it gives me a very comfortable driving position with my arms bent at the 9 and 3-o'clock position. I'd recommend it for people 6' tall and up.

I was in the White and Yellow groups.

That did suck.. we loved that car....we were wondering why it didn't have a roll cage..but there was a rumor that it was your daily driver.

How is your buddy doin that went to the local hospital?

So are you on the look out for another shell? assuming the engine was still intact other then the crank shaft pulley.

I would say that of the tracks I have been to, offing on Buttonwillow would be the safest. but I have only been to three real tracks. As far as safety goes, getting a little lax on safety is unsafe, but thats from a Rock climbing mentality that I have.

he's okay nothing happened to him, just some bruises...that was a daily driven car it took me to work and school every day. It had a date with the fab shop for a full competition cage in december, I was planning on running honda challenge with it next year. I'll be back with a new shell soon

very cool...

You guys gave the impression that, a little scratch to one car would not keep you from racing.. good to hear...

and I am glad your buddy was ok... was he dehydrated?

I am sure the next car will be better then this one..

Hi, I am new to the board, I was at buttonwillow at the 24th with the white integra. Ran off the track near the star mazda turn on the first session and bend a rim ... after applying some tire sealant and rotate it to the back, was able to run the remaining session 7/10th ...
