Default Civic Mugen Muffler Question

I found a Mugen muffler for sale, and I am thinking about getting it, BUT the muffler is made for a 99-00 Civic SI. What would be needed to do to modify the piping to make it fit my 99 hatchback? Would the piping just need to be redone? Would the hangers need to be relocated? Also, the guy said that it has the JDM tip as oppossed to the US tip, but what is the difference? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Mugen offered different styles of tips on the TL----one version was only available in Japan and the other only in America. There are always debates about which style tip someone has on their MTL. IIR, the JDM tip kind of goes in at the end and is dimpled a little. I think the USDM style is similar but w/o the dimples or something. Bah, I tried finding posts about this on a different board, but I guess they were too old. I remember a few posts had pics that showed the differences.

The JDM tip looks exactly like the current USDM tip. They both taper in ending with 2 rings. The only difference is that the JDM tip has an engraved Mugen logo on the side. However, at one point in time, there was a tip that was not tapered in which was sold to the US market only. This style tip has been discontinued. I have pics of all 3 ever made by Mugen.

So there are really 2 USDM tips.

I'm not sure about that.

But here are pics of the tips so you can see what each one looks like.

JDM tip (notice the engraved Mugen logo)

current US tip (same tip design but no Mugen logo)

discontinued US tip

I just installed a Mugen that was purchased from IPS Racing and it has the Mugen logo engraved on the tip.

The hatchback tip is longer than the coupe tip.

You won't be able to lengthen the tip without ruining the muffler.

Just find a hatchback exhaust.

Well, I bought a USDM for the Civic SI ('99-'00) Mugen axle back local about 2 years ago. At first, I thought he changed the tip, but I realize the welds were to perfect for someone to do by hand. I did some searchn (well, lol, I call King) and was told it was a different tip for the US market.

Again, this wasn't a bolt on. John at LHT performance cut and shorten the pipe and made hangers to work. Took about 25 mins to do.

I would rather spend the extra money to buy a muffler that was made for your car. Also, if you don't mind, is this being sold on Honda-Tech and who is the seller?
