the day started off real nice, woke up, looked outside to my 91 Si and decided it was a good time to put on this new DC strut bar i got.

So i Get done doing that and decide to go for a cruise. I enter the freeway and nail the gas comming off the enterence ramp. I was climbing in 3rd and the rev-limiter kicked in early (like 6200 rpm). I hessitated for a sec, then shifted into 4th.

All of a sudden i feel my car starting to loose power in 4th and when i come to a stop, there is this horrible noise (like a bag of marbles being dropped into the motor), and the car stalls out. I start it back up and head for home. The noise is getting worse and there's an oil smell comming from the car.

All of a sudden....

BOOM!

the engine maked a wicked loud bang sound , lets a huge puff of smoke out from under the hood, and the motor dies instantly.

Look under the car to find a whole the size of a glof ball next to the oil filter, and oil everywhere.

what exactly went wrong with my A6?

yup u threw a rod, it sucks more then likely number 1 let go thats the most common i think. what would cause it to happen? well alot, low oil, no oil pressure lack of oil changes, motor running hot. that kinda sucks tho cuz i've seen motors go alot longer then that.. 170k is nothing
