Karts Pax index
We ran a bracket style, PAX indexed, eliminationor this weekend.
An old A mod driver threw a fit about being matched against an F125 kart.
Do karts need to be closer to 1.0 than they are?
I'm somewhat curious how others think about it.
Someone mentioned that it has something to do with the Nationals course being so big, and fast, they don't have the top speed, and can't keep up.
But on a short, fast, regional type of layout, a good driver can kill us.

it's quite simple...
AMod > F125
AMod IS faster than F125, and it's largely due to gearing/top end. AM cars have more power up top. a 125cc shifter runs out of steam on fast courses.
the F125 PAX bites if you are racing in F125
the F125 PAX is entirely too soft if you are racing against it.

screw the f125 pax.... we need to up the damn STS pax! talk about a soft... sts cars take top pax at virtually every event i go to. being in SM, i have to beat them usually at a 3 second minimum, which is a feat in itself.

Yeah, but...look at this:
SFJr pax: .774
Softer than HS. This is the rub.
STS PAX is not too soft. STS cars are easier to develop than SM cars (SM is not even close to being fully developed yet IMO). Go to a national level event and STS will fall into place with the other classes.
STS does behave (pax) better on crappy lots though. The difference in tires is not as severe, and a lot of locals don't understand this.

A "on their side" PAX, no chance of hitting a cone, and no need to slow down = FTD
Do they need to rethink the F125 PAX?
I think so.
And I'm not biased because a F125 can be faster than me.
It's just a topic I've never even thought about before.
However, for as long as these things have the "advantage", bracket racing them is going to be impossible.

If you don't hit cones every once and awhile, you're not going fast enough.

On the other hand, look at nationals... fastest raw time in F125 still doesn't PAX them all that well overall.

Is that due to top speed? Size of the course?

F125 is pretty slow on our regional course at Turner Field where I routinely hit 60mph+ multiple times in my street tire BS M3. All it takes is one slow element and it takes them another 10-15 secs to get up to speed. The fast SM cars usually match/beat their time.
If you hit a cone with one of those things though, something is wrong with you.

are you talking about the same karts everyone else is?? the 125 karts being mentioned here are the shifter jobs. you know, 125cc 2-stroke motorcycle motor and sequential gearbox? there is no way in hell they don't accelerate as fast (or faster) then _any_ SM car.
why is there a concern over pax?? SoloII doesn't use pax for anything. ProSolo uses their own index for some parts of the event, but it still has very little bearing on the outcome. "pax" time is just a little something someone came up with to try and compare drivers irrespective of their car/class. nothing more.
nate-who thinks that the sts pax is soft when it's 45 degrees out and raining, but damn hard when it's 100+ and sunny.
