Horsepower
I wish I had that pic of the vtec engages here, with the map show the worm hole when it engages. Anyways. It was a very well built engine. Talk about top of the line performance.
Honda engineers are top notch, and they realized that RPM equal HP. The higher the RPM at which an engine can make peak torque the higher the HP of the engine is going to be. So essentially RPM = HP.
HP = torque * RPM
___________
5,252
Try it on any dyno it works.
Also the engine has great volumetric efficiency meaning it can spin at 8.5K RPM and still be efficient at making power. When spinning an engine that fast the spark plugs are firing and tremendous speeds and the intake and exhaust valves are opening and closing hundreds of times per second. Most engines cannot make power at such great engine speeds but Honda is unlike many engine maufacturers.
Basically the amount of air that comes in and out of an engine is directly related to the power of the engine. 4 valves per cylinder, an ingenious VTEC system, 9 K redline, along with relatively high compression and there you have it.
