Easy Prelude Question.....I hope!
A local Honda dealer told me yesterday that starting in '99, the prelude came with two engine choices. One with 195 HP and one with 200HP. When I said the difference in HP is because one is an automatic and the other is manual, he said I was wrong!? Did Honda offer two diffrent engines starting in '99...if so, why only 5hp difference? What are the other differences because he said the redlines are different as well?!
Thanks in advance for the help!
P.S.---I did a search, but didn't find what I was looking for.

195hp = automatic/sportshift
200hp = manual
The dealer was wrong. I would have been surprised if you found a dealer that knew what they were talking about.

didn't the SH kill some hp off the base model?
I thought thats where the extra "5hp" went?
And I've only heard 190 and 195... but I don't keep up with that dealer BS.

97-98 Preludes Base/SH 195 hp
97-98 Preludes Sportshift 190 hp
99-01 Preludes Base/SH 200 hp
99-01 Preludes Sportshift 195 hp
Supposedly the extra 5 is from a less restrictive exhasut but I think it's just some BS marketing ploy by Honda. I still think we probably had less then the 195 hp thats claimed.

Thanks Guys....so the enginge code is the same right? (H22A) There isn't an optional engine with a higher redline or some bs like that?
I knew that I was right! I was like "so you are saying if i get a 5 speed, I have a choice of engines?" and he was like"yup...195 or 200hp"
Man, I hate dealers and they're upitty unintelligent crap making me doubt myself!
Peace....
Preludes rock!.....but I love my GSR!

Both are fine, but the closed deck option is nice to have when doing forced induction. If you have questions on the differences between the two styles, let me know, or someone here could easily answer it for you...I'm too busy right now to type it all out!
..the cams in the sh model are slighly more aggressive than the base h22 cams, and just milder than the type S cams! Same valvetrain as the base model but just a little more profile.

And JG we all know that the H22A4 is much better.

Whats the deal with Auburn be'in the War Eagles AND the Tigers?
The story goes for our second mascot, (and it actually is true) that back a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago (early part of the century), and old war vet that went to Auburn (then called the Alabama Poly Tech institute or something like that) came back to watch a football game. The war hero was notorious for having a golden eagle as a pet, carrying him everywhere.
When Auburn started losing, the eagle took flight and circled the field. The crowd and the team saw that and it lifted everyone's spirits. Pretty soon they started chanting "War Eagle!" and Auburn came back to win the game. The eagle as our hero.
Ever since then, we've had a Golden Eagle (Named "Tiger") at our games. We're on our 4th or 5th eagle if I remeber correctly. We also have the second largest cage dedicated to one bird in the US.
So, when you hear us scream WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!! at the top of our lungs, now you know the story.... and the pride that goes into it...
