Default How to mitigate damages

As some of you may already know I rear ended a guy about 2 weeks ago. I havent had time to fully inspect the car but ive found a couple broken peices of plastic which appear to be from the headlight. And my coolant resevior is empty.. as for symptoms of the car.. it appears that the steering wheel shakes a bit more.. and my idle is messed up when I draw power ie. roll up/down windows, my rpms fluctuate from 650-1k can a bad alternator do this? or is it from the accident?
So as im looking at the papers my insurance sent me... it says "you have the responsibility to mitigate your loss including rental, towing, labor and storage fees as they relate to this claim."

so I guess I have no choice but to take my car to a shop (I despise shops) . Who here knows of a good, legit, reputable, shop here in so cal area? I want my car to be in good hands.. I have done everything on my car as of yet.. (with the exception of friends helping me, and the couple times I took my car to acura )

please help me out

mods this is a cross referenced thread from the intega forums.. maybe the R guys found a shop that they trust and goto regularly

mitigating your loss means they dont want to pay you for expenses that occur after the accident and are not caused by the accident. Such as storage.

You can do the work yourself, save the reciepts and they should compensate you for your time. Just document everything.

They arent going to want to pay to store a vehicle for 2 months while they sort out the claim. They expect you to store it somewhere that is free. Thats what they mean by mitigating your loss.

Mitigating your loss simply means that you have to take any action a prudent person would do (regardless of whether there's insurance or not) to minimize and prevent further damages to your vehicle. This is basically a condition in any insurance policy, be it auto, homeowners, or commercial, as it prevents people from taking the "oh well, it's insured I might as well leave it" attitude. Whether or not you receive any compensation for your actions in mitigating depends on the coverage you have.

Poway valley collision is real good, i mean for repairs...

they are kind of pricey but insurance paid, and i got the car back 5 days later with less then 1 mile put on it since they had it in their posession. so they can be trusted...they wont go joyriding your car.

i was just like you i didnt want to trust someone driving around MY Si(99) fixed up the way it is and enjoying what ive worked so hard for.

they are nice people too

and the place is called Poway Valley Collision located in eastern Poway

hope everything works out 4 yer car
