prelude swap for dummies
Hi. I drive a 5-spd 1993 Honda prelude Si DOHC non-vtec. I pretty much destroyed the engine by snapping the timing belt. I want to get an engine swap with a H22a DOHC VTEC motor. I don’t know much about cars, but a few of my friends who know more about cars told me that all I need is the H22a motor, ECU, and wiring harness. But they weren't sure if my existing transmission would work with the H22a motor. Can anyone tell me if my existing transmission will or will not work with the new motor? Also, will a new intake and exhaust be absolutely necessary or will my existing intake and exhaust work fine?
Thanks,
max

Yes, the H23A1 tranny will bolt up fine, but the gear ratios are not optimal for the H22A engine.
Yes, the motors use the same intake.
The cat convertor side of the exhaust has a different flange so it will need minor modification to work. I would suggest just picking up a cheap VTEC test pipe from somewhere.

thanks alot, not having to get a new transmission will save me big time. so essentially all i need is H22 engine, ECU, and wiring harness for a clean swap, right? would you know any websites where i can order the wiring harness for the H22? i plan on getting the engine from nippon-motors.com and from what i understand they only sell engines and the ecu.
thanks

you can just use the harness of the h23 and run 3 wires, there is not need to get a new harness. there is also the chance since you have a 93 that your car could already be wired for vtec
