Long one in the oil pan. Short one in the tranny.

the short will work in both but the long won't fit in the tranny

I actually saw these at pep boys last time I was there... $2.00 a pop. Not sure if oil pan threads are different, there was only size there.

spoon's magnetic drain plugs are stronger than the cheap ones.

slightly stronger, but still - stronger nonetheless

Really? What is the difference in ultimate tensile strength between the Spoon plug and say, a Grade 8 hardened plug from my local hardware supplier?

Also please share why either the engine oil or tranny drain plugs need to be "strong" since they bear no load other than the minimal torque required to maintain a seal through which low pressure liquid cannot pass?

Maybe he is talking about magnet strength???

Personaly, I think the tranny one is a waste since there is a magnet allready in there. As for the oil pan one, just got to autozone and pick one up for 4 bucks.

Well i have both the tranny plug and the oil plug on my R. Since I have drained the tranny oil at least 4 times in the last year... I have yet to find and particles on the plug magnet.... however, when I had the tranny open and was cleaning out the case I did notice fine particles stuck to the magent which come mounted in the tranny.

As for the oil plug, I do notice very, very fine particles attached to the magnet when doing oil changes... so I know the magnet concept works.... (Will those, fine, fine particles cause damage to the engine, I dont know)

I meant magnetic strength. I did a crude test.

I was holding up large soup cans with the spoon drain plug. my roomate's kragen magnetic drain plug couldn't do that.

yes they are. the mags you need to get are called neo... **** i forgot.
anyways that mag i have on there can hold around 10lb. i htink its
strong enough since the magnetic bolt in the tranny is barely able to
hold only 1lb. i know my 10/l mag is stong enough.

Having the tranny plug is beneficial - look at the crap on my plug.
