I believe the post above to be correct. The 1st SiR was a 1990 model. I have 88-89 JDM and EDM CRX brochures and they make no mention of the SiR or as it was called in Europe, the VT or VTi. If the press material is dated Sept 1989 wouldn't that make it pertinent to the '90 model year?
I'm not sure how model years are designated in Japan or Europe, but info
dated Sept. 1989 in the US would pertain to 1990 models.
The SiR might have been a mid year introduction however the same way as the Original 1985 USDM CRX Si it was announced in the fall of 1984
but wasn't available for puchase until the spring of 1985.
I KNOW that for a fact because I bought one of the first. I had to wait a couple of months before they were shipped here. LOL

Well like I said in my above post. I wasn't sure. I don't know how they designate model years in Europe and Japan. But, what makes YOU so sure it's a 1989 model? I'm not saying you are wrong! I would just like to know for my own knowledge how to tell what year a JDM or EDM model is. On USDM CRX's the model year is designated in the VIN. Is this true in other countries as well?
Try this link: http://asia.vtec.net/specs/efcrx/
From what I could find searching the web, if there are 1989 SiR's there are not many and they were made at the very end of 1989. And we still
have no definite answer on what makes it an '89 as oppossed to a '90.
They could have been manufactured in 1989 but are in reality 1990 models. I can NOT find any definitive info in one direction OR the other.
Like I said above I KNOW how to prove the model year of a USDM CRX.
But I don't know if the same rule applies to other countries.
As an example. I KNOW there were NO 1992 2Gen CRX's in the US but there WERE in Europe. Perhaps we are dealing with a similar circumstance here as well.

I told you they get the date from when the car was first registered. however I believe may be possible to work out the exact date using the chassis code. however the crx I own was first registered in 1989, thus the car was made before that. and I have seen quite a few 1989 sirs going up for sale at japanese auctions.
starting to get annoying now, I dont think I'll add anymore on this topic.

They are two different things. The manufacture date and the model year date DO NOT neccasarily coincide. Sorry , if you think that is annoying.LOL
I can only speak with authority on USDM CRX's, but maybe this information can be applied universally
I personally OWN a 1990 model CRX DX that was manufactured in DEC. of 1989. How do I know this you ask. Easy. #1 the date of "MANUFACTURE" is PRINTED on the white sticker on the drivers side
door jamb. However this DOES NOT mean the car is a 1989 model. How
do I know this? Because in my USDM CRX manuals it has a breakdown of the VIN. number code letters and meaning. The 10th space from the left tells you model year designation.
The letter designation for model years on USDM 2gen CRX's is as follows.
J = 1988
K= 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991
The model year designation is independent of DATE of MANUFACTURE.
On USDM CRX's anyway.
HTH
Sorry, this still doesn't answer your original question however.
Another example of this phenomonon would be the 1983 Corvettes.
GM knew there would be NO 1983 Corvettes. So they continued making
1982 models far longer than they would have normally. Then they began
building what would have been 1983 models far sooner than normal, but
they are designated 1984 models. Even though they were built in 1983.
That is one of the reasons 1984 Corvettes are almost worthless today.
Hey try this link, I found it on the web. LOL Maybe you'll believe an unbiased opinion. http://members.lycos.nl/hendrik/honda/vin.htm

for EDM's checking the bottom of the seatbelt where the cover goes will tell you the year the belt was made. This is likely a good indication of the car's age. It's apparently the same for the JDM ones.
For the UK at least we have cars registered in 92 but production stopped in 91, they were just sat waiting for someone to register them. a 92 is a rare thing, I believe someone also has a 93 reg.
