Default TEG JUST SHUT OFF AT A LIGHT TODAY, DISTRIBUOR PROBLEM.

THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I WENT TO GO BUT THE CAR WAS OFF, SO I TRIED STARTING IT AND NOTHING. I PUSHED IT TO THE SIDE PULLED OFF THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND THE ROTOR LOOKED PRETTY BURNT AND THE RUBBER SEALS ON MY NGK WIRES WERE MELTED. I BOUGHT NEW OEM WIRES, A CAP AND ROTOR AND THE CAR STILL WOULDNT START. SO I BORROWED AN ENTIRE DISTRIBUTOR FROM A FRIEND PUT IT ON AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP??? SO I'M THINKING MAYBE ITS THE IGNITOR? ANY OTHER DISTRIBUTOR PARTS THAT IT COULD BE? HOW MUCH AM I LOOKING AT FOR THE IGNITOR, THE DEALER SAID $200 SEEMS HIGH, CAN I GET IT ANYWHERE ELSE FOR CHEAPER? TIA

yeah, seems like it would either be that or the coil, but i remember someone talking about some sort of a relay? not sure, does anyone know where to pick one up for less than 170? thanks

you can check your main relay, turn on batt power, you should hear it click. possibly the coil or igniter, but you already knew that. make sure spark is your problem.

yeah we checked and there was no spark, well at least if i'll know if the igniter doesnt do it it has to be the coil, hope i can return it though.

i dont think you can return it if its a special order part. that is, if you got it from honda dealership.

the ignitor IS the coil in a Teg.
if you had a coil, there would be a 5th wire coming off the center of your distributor now wouldn't there.
the best price i have seen is 170$. IM Len, he might be able to get it a little cheaper for you.

Slap: who replaced his igniter a year ago when the rotor screw punched through it at 8000 rpm

The same thing happened to me in my old civic. It is the Distributer and it aint cheap. Do yourself a favor and just get the Honda one. Aftermarket may be a lot cheaper but it is frouned appon in my eyes to use aftermarket electrical components. Just my thoughts, hope everything works out.

I know in Florida they had a massive recall on Integras for the distributor thing. Well this was a while back. The same thing happened on my G2 Integra and it was covered by Acura thanks God. It was a little over 6 bills.
