squeeking sounds and could probably feel a little grinding on the tire.

I don't know about squeaking or grinding, neither of the two bearings that have gone bad on me made those noises. Maybe if it goes on so long that it starts to scrape into the spindle or something . . . .

But the bearing is usually a thumping or knocking from the wheel area that increases in frequency the faster you go - turns into a loud roar at higher speeds.

And it'll be noise isolated to one side or the other - i.e. if it's a bad right bearing, any hard right turn will make the noise go away as weight is removed from that corner. A hard left turn might make the noise louder.

And when it's jacked up, you'll be able to shift the entire wheel back & forth a little bit on it's bearing - it'll be "wobbly".

They can go bad by getting loose. Then the wheel can wobble, you can grab the tire & 12oclock & push/pull to check if it's loose. But the upper ball joint could be loose too. Gotta look to see where the looseness is located.

Bearings can also go bad by getting tight. I haven't had one go on a Honda, but on a '89 Saab it sounded just like a knobby mud tire. When I took off the steering knuckle it was difficult to spin the bearing. Felt like it had sand in it but it was never loose...
