Should I mod or just buy a new engine?
Hey everyone... I recently bought an 89 Integra RS and I wanted to know if it will be worth it to mod this engine... which has about 120,000 miles on it, or should I just look at a replacement engine?
Everyone talks about these B16a's... what is that... a type of motor from a newer car? or just a custom motor?
heh, if this has been answered before... I'm sorry, I did search... but as y'all can probably tell I'm new to the import/Acura scene... thanx in advance

your chassis code is DA. most people around here refer to what kind of car they have to the chassis code. but anyway, you have a b18a . thats the engine code.
B = b series engine
18 = 1.8L
a= tells that its a earlyer version of the b18. there were 2 non-vtec b18's. b18b and b18a. basically the same thing just differs in years.
but yea it would be worth it to mod. you can do whats called an LS/VTEC, (check the link in my signature to read more ) or you can turbo the b18, ( might want to strengthen the block first) or you can get a ported head and some sweet cams/valvetrain, and you should be pulling hard till 8K rpms. the stock ls ports suck. so basically there is alot you can do, so make up your mind and look forward to some lengthy reading.
and WELCOME!

Uh read that agian.. he has a 1st gen Teg. D16a1. More then likely you can build that chassis. but fidning suspension parts is a chore... you got lucky and got a electronic advanced so you can use things like ghetto dyne or Zdyne for fuel management. Your platform is similar to 3rd gen Civics and 1st gen CRX's... finding parts for those bodied cars is a pain. I went thru it, but I found as many venders as I could that still sell stuff.
I think the 1st gen is a DA2(3 door) and DA4(4door)
You can swap in b motors, but you need a mount kit from HASport, and since your already electronic advanced and not vacume no rewiring, only for VTEC.

yeah! lets just argue about threads all day long!
ok, seriously...why don't you think of getting another car? like they said, parts for an 89 integra are no where to be found. a d16 has what....120hp? get a 94 ls (140hp) and build on that. you can get body kits, and whatever. there are many parts out there for 3rd generation tegs. oh yeah, then you can do LS/VTEC

get another? he just bought one!
take it as a challenge to find as many things for your car as you can. if modifying it to the maximum is your eventual goal, you can do it, it just won't be too cheap. sounds weird, because the car itself isn't that expensive, but parts availabilty is slim, so that's why stuff for newer models will be cheaper probably.
good luck, and you can modify that engine!

OK... so I have a D16a1 motor...
and I can switch that out with a "B series" motor.... whats a b series... from a newer honda car? and are u talkin a 1.8L.... like a B18 i guess that would be?
or do they make 'em in b20s....
and if I want to get serious I should look at a replacement engine first I assume?
sorry I really don't know whats going on... and I appreciate y'alls patience in dealin with me... I'm a n00b

alright. you guys gotta explain things more to him. He's talking about his engine, not his chassis code.
you can do what we call an engine swap.
switch out that old motor/tranny/ECU/etc.. for a newer/better one.
there are many options for your honda/acura.
B18c1 (b18's come of integras. b18c1 is the integra gsr engine)
B18b1 (this is off an integra LS/GS)
b18c5 (really expensive. this is from an integra type R)
B16A2 (this is off a civic Si '98-'00)
B16A1 (correct me if i'm wrong. this is off an older Si?)
H22 VTEC (off a prelude)
well anyways.. check out all the engine swap pages and see which one you like.
there's alot to research but you can do it. good luck!
