rookie building H1 car for next season. I have a couple q's...
yes i know h1 is the fast guys but i already have the car and everything else and it fits perfectly into h1. My car is a 90 civic hatch. I have just about everything ready and need your opinions on brakes, spring rates, sway bars and any other lil' tricks.
also, can i run lexan in place of my rear 3 windows? that's a lot of wieght but the thing that bothers me is how much glass that is.
thanx guys
oh yeah, i know i need seat time but i also need a car above my level so i can work my up into it and not have to keep buying parts that should normally be there plus my sponsors are hooking it up so i need to take advantage of that while i can.

No lexan under the current rules. Grab the rulebook and read the FAQ on the web site. All the info you need is there.
i heard that next season lexan is going to be legal... however, there is also going to be a minimum weight in effect for H1. so what weight u do remove from window, etc., you have to add back. but you'll have the option to place it where u want it to perfectly balance out the kar.
brakes: i run the fastbrakes wilwood 4piston 11" rotor setup. best bang for the buck
suspension: i went with OTS koni yellows and ground control coilovers (spring rates are 425lb front, 600lb rear) kar rotates very nicely, and is very easy to predict. no front sway bar, and 91 civic Si rear sway bar.

If you need help on the following.... you're far from having everything ready.

Get some HPDE/AutoX seat time to shake down the car and build some skills and get comfortable at speed.

If you think you are comfortable at speed but have not done any HPDE events, then you will quickly become less comfortable than you thought you were when you do a few HPDE events to shake down the car and learn the various tracks you will be racing at.
Sounds like you have the right idea, but if you really want to road race, then H4/H5 will be a better/cheaper solution. Keep the vtec motor aside and once the car is shaken down and fast with the "slow" motor, swap it in along with some bigger front brakes.

ok, that would be the easier way to go def. but i cannot afford to build up another motor, even just a lil bit. I can get suspension stuff real easy. I don't plan on winning or even being competitive for a while but i'm stuck using the stuff i have.
you def. have some good points but my situation is pretty locked in right now. Hopefully it will work out for me though. Thanx guys.

Hey man,
This is the last place you should look for advice if you want to run H1! You will be given all sorts of crap from people who don't really know anything!
One of the first rules of racing is... Listen to good advise... But don't listen to everyones good advise! Opinions are like ********... Everyone has one!
If you want some honest, experienced answers... PM me. I'll try to help.
Good luck.

Almost every current EC H1 drivers is on this board. Why is it the "last place to look" for advice? Why???????????????????
litlekikr- Maybe you can come crew/ watch the final rounds at CMP and Summit. You could get a first hand perspective of the H-C.
John- still wondering whats going on at Lowes.

If you have'nt already built the car then perhaps you should look for a newer hatch
You can find EK shells for less than 2k in places. With everyone being at a minimum weight next year the EK will have an advantage with body rigidity, length and width of wheel base. Plus likely alot less wear on components such as steering ect.
I built an EF and now it's sitting in storage until I can afford a full rebuild to be competitive with next years rules and the cars currently being built.

John, I rest my case... The guy wants to run in H1 !!! You know the sorts of replys any question on EC H1 gets on this site. Especially from people in H2, H3, H4 etc. etc. None of which is really relevent to what he wants to do. Perhaps I should have said...Most H1 Drivers say very little on this site because everything we say or do brings screams of anguish and dispute from people in other classes who are not really involved!
My suggestion... First do some HPDE of course... Then...
1st Rule of racing... Take good advice.
2nd.Rule... Don't take too much advise!
Once again, Good luck.

kiwi,
i agree....h2-h5 guys don't know AS MUCH about hybrids as those who do drive them.....
to anyone
i am an h1 guy you can ask me anything....i'll give you an honest answer....maybe not one you want to hear but it will be honest....
H1 is expensive especially if you are doing all of your own developement....
if you want to be a front runner then you have to have engine developement cuz a b16 swap isn't gonna cut it for very long....
jmo anyways....

to litlekikr: there is a lot of discussion on suspension theory in this forum's archive. otherwise, pick up some books to study. the best race car drivers not only have raw driving talent, but they also understands car setups. search in the archive for book recommendations. it doesn't sound like you have much seat time. be prepared to spend a lot of time... and don't forget to make any and all of your actual on track seat time as useful as possible. i get tons of seat time but i still have a specific session goal each time.
the search function is rather weak, but be creative, the archive has lots of useful info. if you need help just ask. some of us will (try to) point you to the right direction.

depends on the rules... if next year h1 gives weight minimum based on displacement, then b16a still has a chance (ie, current WC rules b16a is allowed to be lighter than b18c). but if there is just a generic minimum, then i agree with you.

one of the best ways to learn about any class in racing is to go to one of the races and be curious George
these guys work hard but every one of them is more than willing to indulge questions (as long as the time permits)
if you are from Locust Grove, VA you can come hang out with Corey and I and look at how a H2 and H3 get done on the worst of budgets.
there is a lot to learn attending the races and being a part also
