I got ripped on Paypal. Paid the guy $200, but never received the stuff that was promised. Filed a complaint with paypal so that they can do some sort of "investigation". I doubt I will ever get my money back. Paypal=
Always use a credit card for your own protection. Use PayPal with a credit card, not your bank account. If they don't take credit cards, don't do business with them. Too risky.

Paypal is a joke and I would never use it again...
As far as being reputable, that doesn't mean ****...my buddy sold his wave runner to one of our good friends...it was like $4K or something, but they froze both accounts and won't give him back his money...
I know that there is a lot of fraud going on w/ Paypal, but they had no reason to do it...and even if they did, THEY STILL WON'T GIVE IT BACK TO HIM. they are forcing him to go through and dispute his CC...all the while my friend hasn't seen his 4K yet...
They have no clue what is going on...
I've also heard from a reputable source (ie, one of their employees) that they are still in the red from this business venture...they have LOST money offering this service...
Sorry this is so long, but I STRESS NOT USING PAYPAL....if anything, use ebay's billpoint, more secure and ebay doesn't **** around. they get **** done. my .02

Paypal is not as secure as they like to advertise.
Virtually, there is no security offered to the buyer. Once the buyer makes the payment, the only form of security available, is the trust that the seller is honest. Even though sellers can have verified accounts, it still does not offer any true form of security. If there is no money in the brick and mortar bank account, Paypal cannot retrieve the money. That is if they will even do so. Secondly, anybody can verify their account, and then close their bank account the next day.
I believe that Paypal now has this new "sense of security" where the numbers of transactions are listed next to the account name. So that if you see a high number, then their logic would suggest that this person must be reputable if they continue to do business through Paypal. I say this person has continued to rip people off through Paypal!
As far as security offered to the seller, Paypal has a guaranteed protection program up to a certain amount. I think is it to protect sellers against unauthorized credit card use, i.e. stolen credit cards, but I do not think that charge backs are covered under this. Nor do I know how secure this protection is.
And to finally make this service even more undesirable, Paypal has now included a 3% charge on all received payments that were charged by credit card over $100. I would suggest using Escrow which has a 4% charge on transactions less than $5000, but offers true security for both the buyer and seller.
I once recall reading on this board that Paypal is operated by three people in California. I am not sure how reliable this information is, but if it is true, I would shy away from Paypal.
To close, I would suggest that you deal with reputable people. Of course this is easier said than done, but there are some helpful information that can be found about internet purchasing by doing a search on google.

I've had a lot of good experiences using Paypal and have never had any problems with it.
I have a business account and a personal account, and move money between it and my credit cards and bank accounts. Good service based on my experience.
