I am doing that swap now. I have a 4 speed in there now so I am swapping in a 91 dx 5 speed I picked up...the cable tranny's will bolt right up...I am going to sell the hydro tranny that came with it..it is not worth the $ to convert it to use the hydro.

Motor goes right in with little to no mod...I hear that it will sit a little down on 1 side but hardly noticable and will not cause problams...and I heard the AC bracket may need to be slightly modified to fit...I know someone who just had to drill out one of the holes a little to make it fit.

I needed new hubs and axles since I have the std model but you will be ok...prolly need a new distributor, need to convert to mpfi, and I bought a wiring harness from bown hatch to convert from OBD0 to OBD1 (also a p28 ecu to control the vtec) and a fuel injector resistor.. It may sound like alot but compared to a b16 swap...this is alot easier and cheaper.

There is always something else you need when it comes to a swap so prepare to spend a little extra...but it will be totally worth it. I cant wait!!

i have a d16z6 in my 91 crx dx. i haven't done the obd1 conversion yet, so i'm running it with a jdm pr3 (for the b16). it's not the easiest wiring job, but if you're motivated and creative you could do it. it's pretty much the same as the b16 wiring , with a few more changes in the connectors. it also worked out nicely so that i have both the obd1 and obd0 chassis connectors at my shock towers, so once i make the obd1 ecu jumper, i'll have my choice of obd1 or obd0 for my next swap with pretty much no changes in the wiring. i have a cel right now for the knock sensor, which won't be a problem with the y8. i'm running a crx hf distributor and my stock dx trans, which is coming out in favor of a crx si trans as soon as i get it put back together.

I'm probably spending:
Motor + Hydro tranny = 500 (selling hydro tranny 150-200) so motor = 300 lets say...
DX 5 speed = 75
ecu = 100
harness = 175
gauge cluster (because I currently have no tach) = 50
hubs and axles = 250
Distributor = 150
Labor = 800 for everything

Probably almost 2000 altogether but it will be worth it... it is like getting a brand new car. The ZC is also an inexpensive swap but they have a hard time passing emissions. I know a few who have them and give them a thumbs down in reliability...on the other hand there are some people who praise them...really depends on what kind of condition they are in..

Sometimes you may get one from an importer that is beat up...you wont know it until you get it in your car and then what the heck do you do? your out $$...

I got mine from a local guy that was swapping an LS motor in his 97 civic and had no need for this one... It had some aftermarket parts on it already (headers, adj cam gear, etc..)

I really would have loved a b16 swap but the mounts and all the changes you had to make to make it fit really drove up the cost.

Of course, if I was mechanically inclined enough to install my own motor etc.. it would have been alot cheaper... most people really search for a great deal on the components and parts. It takes a while but worth it. And if they can do it themselves, I have heard of people doing complete swaps for 5-600 bux.
Every swap is going to be different. I just wanted a y8 because it has low miles and is a reliable motor that was not beaten on.
