Default ITR engine rebuild 96 JDM ITR engine (NEED HELP)

Hi Guys,

I went to do a compression test and my engine is in bad shape... (after I had hard time beating a GSR), and i burn a **** load of oil, BTW I drive hard everyday.

cylinder 1 = 180
cylinder 2 = 180
cylinder 3 = 150
cylinder 4 = 180

obviously i need to change my rings... I was wondering if I should also change my pistons to a higher compression... like JE or Arias 12.5? or 11.5?

what pistons should i put? anything else u guys recommend?
should I change anything else also?

whatever I change I want it to be as reliable as before and I want more power then before.

JDM Civic Type R pistons would give a nice increase in compression and power, yet still be fine on pump gas...

you could also get some nice forged spOOn pistons, but they are $$$$

do a search - this is a common topic around here

philly - I thought spoon pistons were just balanced OEM ITR & CTR pistons. does spoon sell "forged" pistons - please post info on these pistons & where you got the info...thanks
scorpioX - I would go oversize jdm ITR pistons or CTR pistons - or if you have the loot, wiseco pistons & some rods (eagle, etc...)

Hi guys,

someone told me IB Spec Wisecos are pretty could and he recommended me those.... anyone knows anything about them?

the IB Spec have more silicon in them which makes the engine run smooth(from what i heard).

thanks,

Higher silicone content would keep the engine slightly quieter. That is why Honda uses higher silicone content in the OEM pistons. however, it does not make them better. The higher the silicone content, the more susceptible the pistons are to detonation. Take your pick.

To my knowledge, JE and Wiseco typically have the same silicone content. I've heard more good than bad about both, so take your pick.

If you're looking for a picton with lower silicone content, looser clearances, and slightly "louder", I'd go with Arias.

It really boils down to pref. They all make good pistons...

You stated earlier that you want to raise the static compression a little. Ok - are you going to get it tuned by a professional? Personally, I'd go with a set of JE or Wiseco's because you're not going FI, right?
