Hungary Gran Prix on Speed .. WTF??!
What? You mean you don't like NASCAR (and all the subcategories) shoved in your face? What's wrong with you.
All I can say is use this:
http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/
And this:
http://www.tivo.com/
Then all will be right with the racing world.

Geez, you don't even need that. There are these things called VCRs. We had one when I was in third grade, a Betamax. I thought everyone had heard of them by now.

Those of you with Tivo, can you set it to say, just catch World Challenge, CART, ALMS and F1, or does it just catch all autoracing, thus filling it up with NASCRAP?
Reason I ask, I've already got digital cable, but the freakin' listings just list everyting as "Auto Racing." You've got to hit the info button to actually find out what kind of auto racing it is.

I'll be up at 7:30 to watch it. *Hopefully* I'll be enjoying it on my new 57" Widescreen TV (when do you suppose F1 will be arriving via an HD feed?).
Best Buy better not let me down with the delivery...
Scott
PS: Which of you Tarheelers are going to come over Sunday morning to watch it live? F1 then video games...
Presumablly, if someone brings a PS2 (with GT3) we could link two PS boxes together and play games, we could just split the screen (PiP) and run one on each side (I think the new TV will allow that).

VCRs are so 80s.
I guess I will have to find mine and hook it up. Still waiting for that HD Tivo + Direct TV HD Tuner + OTA HD Tuner in one box.
As for F1 in HD, don't hold your breath. CART from Road America was in 1080i on HDnet last month. But that was only because of the last minute venue change. There was no other TV coverage and HDnet picked it up and provided all the HD cameras and gear. That is the only racing I know of in HD. Even ASSCAR on the major networks is still in SD.
I wonder what kind of gear they use to film the F1 races and do they use PAL or NTSC.

Speaking of which, Does everyone want to start a campain to ask Speed to cover ECHC (forget those west coast peeps) for 2004? Anyone interested? I think speedracer33 would know the best way to do this with his back ground.
LOL .. I would hate to know how much we would have to pay them to air it. Not to mention production costs.
Though NASA was talking about doing a promo video. I donno if that ever happened here in the east, but the last WCHC race was supposedly taped. Not sure of they used pro rear or anything.

I 'm under the impression that you work for a marketing firm in Philly. Is this not true?
--I'm not talking about paying for them to air the series but creating the demand for them to carry the series.

With F1 relegated to 7am or 1am to play more NASSCAR, good luck with that. I would start with the Lowe's race though. Maybe we can put AMS on the 2004 schedule.

I work for a pharmaceutical company near Philly. I'm in the marketing department, but I do their finance for them. That is what my MBA is in, finance. I could still write to them, but don't expect much...
Matt (who once wrote a letter to EA Sports about creating an ECHC video game)

I was thinking maybe a larger effort, calls email asking when they are going to cover it etc.... I was thinking more of creating the "buzz" type of deal. I'm all about it. Let me know your take on this?

We still have a chance to get a Hyperfest covered, since they have shown an interest in covering the import scene, however a regular ECHC race wouldn't happen. I'm 99% sure the Cobetto made an attempt at this for 2003. We can talk to him and Mike DeFord about trying to set it up for 2004....

There are so many friggin useless networks out there... there should be a hardcore racing network. I would pay big bucks to get it. It wouldn't cover NASCAR or even F1. Rather, it would cover grassroots events, like NASA, smaller SCCA, Grand Am Cup, club rallies, hillclimbs, do-it-yourself racer shows...
Basically, if there were a Grassroots Motorsports TV, I would almost never leave home! It's not as crazy as it sounds, when you see that there's now a Jazz network, for example...

No kidding! The old SpeedVision was as close to perfect as one could get. I coul dhave done without the boats and planes, but you have to think therfe is only so much motorsports content that one can get.
Events like ECHC, SCCA, etc which are not already filmed, would have to be produced, which costs $$. All the DR chipper/trimmer/etc ads only go so far.
