Default t-belt frustration...yes i searched

alright i know im screwing something up here,
Everything is lined up, a bit of slack in belt,
ive had the slack on the tensioner side and on the other side as well.
a rotation or two of the cank pulley and the belt is off between 2 and 5 teeth as far as i can tell. Im figuring im not tensioning the belt correctly. I read every post concerning this that came up on the search and im not sure how i am fouling this thing up.
Help....i havent driven my car forever, all i want is to drive the beaut.
TIA

Did you happen to shave (milled) the cylinder head or block by a lot? Doing this can cause some slacking. I have slack also, but it's not by much and only on 1 side.

no milling since ive had it.
Im thinging im screwing up the tensioning process,
i dont know how else it would line up then move a few teeth
after rotation.
maybe someone can specifically outline this process
mayeb im missing some detail.
TIA

Put the belt back on and line up the marks, then rotate the crank counterclockwise slowly. Move it just enough to put most of the slack on the tensioner side only. Then loosen the tensioner and tighten it again. It can take a few trys to get the tension just right. Hope this helps
