Default Re-adjusting the timing belt???

My friend has an ls motor and just dropped it in. The motor sounds like the timing way off. I talked to the older ownder of the motor and he said the belt was kind of loose and the belt might have jumped a a tooth or so. I checked the belt and it was loose. How do i readjust it? Can i do it with the motor in the car??? If anyone knows how that would be great...Thanks in advance for any input

it can easily be done in the car. remove the acc. belts, valve cover, main pulley, front covers, losen the tensioner and readjust it. remember, the belt tension is not supposed to be crazy tight. usually, if the belt tension gets low, it is a good time to replace the belt. it may be damaged, if you are already taking it all apart, why not?

the crank shaft pulley will be off the engine. you will be lining up the main crank gear. there is a line on it that will line up with another line on the engine, oil pump, or the lower cover that stays on the car... i forget, i havent done it in a while. as soon as you look, you will see it.

Here's a helpful link from C-Speed Racing.

http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...t.php

It shows how to change a timing belt on a B18C motor. Although it's not EXACTLY what you're looking for, it does show how to remove a timing belt a setting everything to TDC (Top Dead Center) ... It's very helpful!
