Help troubleshoot noise for me !
I need some help from you guys trouble shooting a noise I get on start up.. Background is a 91 LS with B18a with 145k miles.. Runs good otherwise-- no problems I can detect..
The problem is that when I start my car when its cold (cold as in hasnt ran, not as in cold weather), I get a fairly loud metal on metal noise.. It sounds as there is no lubrication somwhere and it sounds to be from the head. It could be from anywhere-- my ear says somewhere up top..
The oil light comes on briefly and the noise goes away after about 5 seconds... Like a VERY loud lifter/valve tick.. Distributor? Cams? ANythihng? Oil pump?
No clue how to explain it-- just sounds like something is NOT lubricated for the first 5 seconds of start up.. After the motor has ran for a minute or so -- it wont do it again upon next start up.. NOt until its cold again ...
Sorry for the vague description-- but ANY help is appreciated and I dont want to put a ton of money into this car just replacing parts cause I plan to sell here soon.. Thanks a million for any advice you have -- Jeff
