suspension that works for under 400 bucks
what are some of you guys running on your crx's i was looking at ground controls and tokio blues but eveyone says GC's are bouncy ... looking for somthing thats stuff enought to ride the corners but enought to handle freeway driving with out losing teeth ..
How much are you looking to drop your car?? For around $400 you could get the KYB GR2's and also the Eibach pro-kit which will lower it about an inch. Now while I dont have this setup I have heard from plenty of people on sites that that is a nice setup. I think that I might be going with the KYB AGX's and the pro-kit but not too sure yet either?? Either that or the Tokico Illumina's and the H&R OE sports which is a little less than an inch.
well i have the prokit ..but is not really what im after now.. granted it drives smoth but i want somthing that handles better .. i really dont want to but, it looks like going to go with coilovers and some kinda shocks
400-500 max

H & R "race" springs
Tokiko blues 86-89 accord fronts and civic rears.
the drop is as far as i'd like to go.
The front end still feels a little too heavy (i guess w/ the b16), but if you got some adj. shocks it would help more.
I could use a camber kit, but tire wear isn't too bad, that's with 205 13's.
Some day I'll probably upgrade the shocks, but you said what works for under 400 bucks

i still can't believe you people are suggesting tokico blues for a lowered car. didn't we go through this last year, AND the year before?
Just get better shocks than you have now, like some KYB, or Bilstien non-adjustable or Koni internal adjustable. All of those would work really well with pro-kit springs. IMHO you can improve the handling more with shocks and rear sway-bar than springs on a street car if you still want a somewhat streetable ride.
I put together my race Civic with an extremely low budget. It rides on KYB GR-2 with H&R Race. I believe it to be a good setup for the money, although if I could afford it, I would have Koni with GC's. However, for the street/track, my current setup is a decent compromise.

you guys are all saying springs. his prokit springs arent low enough. he wants to not have any fender gap on 16's. or maybe like half inch at most.

I personally use them with real G/C's and dont see a problem with them. I do hear a lot of bad things about them (the tokico blues) though. A friend of mine also uses them on his 4G hatch with no problems. Let me know your persoanl experience, hopefully it is personal...not just hear-say stuff.

I've got tokico blues up front and used bilstien yellows in the rear, wrapped with GC coilovers. This is in my 88 crx dx. Costed me a little over $500. The ride is pretty bouncy, but it's very stiff. With a heavier b16a motor in the engine bay, and it grabs the road nicely. After i installed some ebay strut and tie bars all around, it cut a few tenths off my quartermile. I commute my car, so i'm used to my butt bouncing outta my seat.... damn potholes...
If you plan to use it as a daily driver and you don't want a harsh ride then I would sugest the following.
Get some LX springs for the year model of your chassis (they are bigger diameter coils). Then put some of the 4 way adjustable KYB AGX shocks. If you set it to the lowest stiffness then the freeway is tollerable but if you go to the full stiff setting it gives a good handling car with a pretty harsh ride. I also used Suspension Techniques Sway bars front and back. This setup is soft enough for a decent ride and yet can leave most every other brand of street car in our class in the dirt when cornering. That's my opinion!!!!
You drop shop guys can rattle your brains out with the lowered chassis setups but it does not offer enough of an advantage for the problems it causes!!!

the energy suspension master kit isnt too expensive 120 i think. do your own labor and really increase your handling
I just got done installing the kit on my crx (second kit installed, first on my late del sol)
Its like night and day. I have tokico blues with DA coilovers on it, lowered abotu 1-1.5" not real low but it handles good now.

i spent 100bucks on eibach pros and bout 40 a piece on kyb gr2's and its probably the most cost effective upgrade i have done........ besides the jimfab bars.........
btw: the springs were slightly used

did you have to use any kinda press to get any of them out??

I think some of the bushings will req a press....
KYB GR-2 with H&R sports (or race..they are just a little lower) .... nice drop+good handling+ under 400

thinking of the new bushings too. when i had my 300zx i used all nismo bushings and it was like night and day. just need the money to buy them and the time and place to install them
i have tein s tech and kyb gr-2's and for the cheapest setup i think it was well worth it, minor wheel gap with 205-50-16's and the ride good for less than 600 bucks, also have energy suspension bushings
Sorry it's not a good pic i'll try to take a better one later.
This is eibach road race with koni yellows (came with car, not sure but the guy told me it was eibach race springs). It's not tucking but it's low enough for me. Ill be changing to skunk 2's with 89 accord bilsteins in front and keeping koni yellows in the back soon. Hopefully that will give me a smoother ride while keeping the suspension tight. Also note that you can adjust where the perch sits on the koni yellows. It might be in your budget if you can find used ones but i wouldn't suggest used struts...

I had the tokico blues on my prelude with h&r race springs. handled amazing, but it also had wishbone suspension in all 4 corners. ride was horrible and the struts blew out in a few months (5)
i now have agx and ebay coilovers on my wagon. no lie, rides like my moms 03 rsx type s. it's lowered maybe 2inches and the struts are at 2

i was able to do all the bushings with out a press.
tools needed:
xtra bolts
saw zaw
hack saw
gas grill
sockets/rachet
cold chisel and hammer
a vise would hepl but i didnt have one of those either.

I had Suspension Tech springs, lowered it nice ( http://www.cardomain.com/id/krustindumm91 maybe there is a good pic), and on stock shocks it isn't bouncy, which is amazing. I think they advertise a 2" drop, I got about 2 in front and 2.5 in back. I had no gap in the back and 1 finger in front, thats on stock 13" steelies. Handled way better than stock too. I think that w/ some better shocks and sway bars it would have been better though. It still pushed a bit, though I think the Energy Suspension front sway bar end links were part of the cause.
If you lower your car that much, throw some 10" long 2x4s in the back (to drive onto), so that you can still get the jack under your car if you get a flat.

Really, no press eh? i had to use a 12 ton press when i did mine! Some of the bushings were stubborn as hell. I cant believe u did it with no press...
