Default Sparco Coolmax Underwear

So, I was window shopping and found Sparco makes non-nomex underwear that supposedly helps wick the sweat away to help cool the body. Seems to be marketed just to karting since they dont need to worry about fire specs. Anyone ever wear this stuff and wanna tell me about it. Seems like a pretty cheap headsock, $19 at retail. Again, its not nomex, so its not fireretardant, but personally i dont think its an issue behind a decent suit and helmet unless the stuff ignites like a human roman candle.... I also just need something to keep my hair out of my eyes.

I wear a lot of coolmax when I mt. bike. The stuff WORKS.

if you want a t-shirt to wick sweat, you should be able to get something cheaper than sparco bling for around $20-$25 from a bike catalog or outdoor shop. Of course no headsock from them though.

Uh, guys - there's a difference between "not fire retardent" and "melts and sticks to your skin when it gets hot." I'm not an expert but isn't Coolmax basically PET plastic?

Have you tried borated cotton?

Darn you and your MSDS. The supplex shorts I'd been wearing under my suit are even worse. Anyone make Nomex shorts with pockets etc?

When I was working for a suit manufacturer, I was apalled to discover that a friend of mine was wearing nylon spandex bike shorts under his suit, driving formula cars. Can you say "shrink-wrap"?

I cut up a Proban cotton top and made a pair of two-layer fire-retardant undies - in blue, so I can change my suit in the pits without running around in my whitey-tighties.

I proposed them as a product but it never got off the ground.

Love the Coolmax socks for workouts and running. Too bad that the Nomex ones are so expensive and do not have the wicking characteristics. For TT or HPDE one can probably wear the socks sold under the Wilson label at WM. As for undies-4 or 5 layers total-how comfy was that compared to cotton running shorts?

Yup - I just haven't ever done any of it very well or for very long...
