Pros and cons: EF over EG?
Well, I personally think that the EG is more refined than the EF, and this makes the EF more fun to drive overall, so sans mods, an EG would feel more like "your mom's car". It depends, CRXs are great, hatchs are just a nice... but EFs are loads cheaper man. Plus, B16A gen 1s are easier to find for them, and they're also cheaper. But, EGs are more refined and in some opinions look cleaner. Honda called the EG the "sports civic"... the EF was the "Grand Civic"... and I think the guys here on the EF forum know why that is. Just search also, I think that this is a favorite topic.
I had to EF Hatches before I got my EG Hatch.
I must say that the EG was more comfortable on the inside... and a little more stylish. But I didn't care for the handling, it was a little more squirrelly than my EF's.
Now I own an EF Sedan and I am wondering why I didn't pick this in the first place!

I think that the EG would be a better buy just due to the fact that there is so much more engine bay room.... And they can be found for just about the same price as a civic or Rex. BUT! The CRX and Civic are classic and always call for attention when they go by IMHO... Just depends on what you want to do and how much money you have....

pros to an ef....
not many nice ones out there, there style is Sick, i love ef hatches 4 door and crxs, u can use cable tranny (cheeper than hydro b16a) many parts not much rice **** out for ef specifically compared to eg, and plus arent eg played? i mean there interior is gay, Also most egs are made in the usa, while all crx and alot of hatches are from the real JDM land.
cons
rust, smaller space for people (who needs fat chicks in there ef?) the fact that u can become obsessive about your ef and love it and dump ever penny u make in yours, (**** the money ive spent)
Get an ef!

biggest pros for the EG are "already wired for MPFI" and "requires no special mount kit for B-series install"
Other than that, my ED3 (4dr 88-91) is more roomy inside than the later versions of the 4dr. It is also lighter- having no airbags (title says 1973 lbs curb weight). The suspension parts bolt right on (I know because I have a 99 GS-R susp on mine), and it's just kinda cool-racy-wedge looking. It also has a trunk under the trunk that I could put a full size spare and a weeks worth of groceries, then the real trunk has enough room for my sub box and a newspaper machine (don't ask). Unfortunately I must sell it because I'm moving to the cold, snowy north. I'm replacing 'er with a CR-V though, so I'll already have a B20 swap
Steve90HB if you're interested in buying mine I'll cut you a good deal. PM me if you have any questions.

some quick EGs pros...
- can use OEM mounts for a B-series (thats a huge plus, it makes up for the difference in price right there)
- OBD1
- all are EFI
- 'better', IMO, suspension and brakes
- easier to find OEM 10.3" brake upgrade
- cleaner exhaust setups
- more room for headers/turbo
- hydro swaps
- more aftermarket love
- newer car = newer technology
But don't get me wrong, I'd buy another EF over a EG anyday. I say, if you don't mind either chasis, then go with the EG. It's newer. But for me I love EFs too much to own a EG.
Okay some EF pros...
- dope JDM conversions
- tougher to find certain parts
- not nearly as common
- can have anything a EG can with some work

I have a 89 crx si and I love it.. looks more stylish and cleaner than an EG, the lines are more JDM cuz they were made there!!! plus the ef's are a cult classic. They're in the same group of cars like 510's, Corolla GTS's and other old skool cars.
IMO, the ef hatch and the crx (or "cervix" as i refer to it
) are classic cars.
the ef hatch is a little boxy, but that's what makes it cool...that fact that it isn't all rounded out like the cars of today. its a nice looking car, and even most body kits look good on it (unlike the crx). i always give props to a clean ef hatch...love them.
the crx is also a classic. thank god they changed over from that ugly 1g styling (looked like a square with 4 wheels...bah). i love how my crx drives/handles. the stock si seats from recaro are also a "fan favorite", and they help accentuate the interior (even though i don't have an interior anymore
). i feel like i'm driving a go-kart when i'm running around town in the crx.
.....my thougts.....

Eggman listed many valid points.
My big PRO of a EF, especially a CRX is its tossablility. I road race, drag race, and autocross my CRX in many events here in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I've been racing CRX's for awhile now. Some may think they are too "twitchy" but I love how the car rotates in the corners.
The main CONS of an EF are CABLE trannys!! I am totally anticipating the release of HaSports Hydro Conversion for the EF's. I think OBD0 sucks, but with conversion harnesses available, you can run OBD1 electronics and Hondata! Check out Jason (90blownHatch) or if you are local, I have them in stock.
I believe the EG's are more refined. They are more modern, have airbags, and a lot more engine room for swaps. This would be the next chassis I would compete with if I didnt compete with EF's. The EK hatch is nice, but I dont like the rear end and the car is pretty heavy compared to the EF or EG.
If you swap as many EF's as I do, you will see that swapping B-series into a EG or EK is a breeze both physically and electronically.
Once Hasport releases the Hydro conversion kit.....my CRX will be running a JDM ITR motor with its own hydro 4.7 final drive LSD tranny!! I am impatiently waiting!!!

Pros for EF Si- CRX is light, short wheel base makes it fun to drive, Si interior is freakin sweet, can use a magnaflow or dynomax muffler and your car looks stock for the sleeper look, not to much rice infected stuff for our cars. Many engine choices that are cheaper due to OBD nada and cable trans.
Cons for EF-DX,Std are dpfi
Dx,Std interior is bland, STD has no sway bars. Gotta spend like $400 for motor mounts. Paint is usualy bad and body will have more damage due to age as well as seats.
EG PROS- so many people have them so used parts are everywhere. Can use Oem B series mounts. Paint and Int is usualy in better shape. More room to carry junk. Si has all wheel disc (I know 90-91 CRX Si Has them too), more room for turbo with b series
Cons- Too Much Rice to distract you in to wasting $,heavier weight (I know a 92 CX weighs about or a lil less then a 88 CRX Si), b16a OBD1 and hydro trans cost more, They usually sell for a bout a $1000 more...which you could put in a Ef..More theft with egs but get a shot gun and a alarm and your set buddy
Overall Ive owned two Ef's and a EG and the Eg rides a lil better cause the longer wheelbase but didnt seem to handle or be as responsive as a EF. The dash is a bit to big for my tatse...A reason why I dont like newer cars...both cars are by far the best FWD hondas to modify imo. Cant go wrong withe either. I like CRX's the best style wise then EG Hatch, Ef hatch then EG coupe.

I like the styling of the EF, but still having both, the EG has evolved into a much more usable car for me. The EF is a tricky car to master if you have the ITR style control arms. Snap oversteer is a little intimidating at first. I find the EG's soak up road undulations much better than the EF, but I like the rear styling of the EF much better than the funny bubble. Interior of the EF is starting to look dated, but that can be improved with the audio console. EG has a bigger dash, but no where near as bad as the BB Lude. I have a fully built a^ turbo in the EF, and a GSR in the EG. Guess which one caused me less headache? Both great cars, but I think I'd give it to the EG. More stuff (not just rice) available and IN STOCK! Ever tried to get A Sports upper control arms for an EF? Don't.

my jdm headers on my ef are almost flat on the bottom, really sucks, just gotta be careful. i kind of want to sell my ef and buy an eg. i like how they look, better i think, more refined.
you know im going to chime in here....first ef.... the as stated befoe the dope jdm conversions.. i mean think about it this gen car 4th and 2nd for crx started this whole craze that we enjoy today... yea sure they made some improvments but i mean this is like the car that really started it all for honda...Its history here were talking about i hope that i still have my ef when im 45 so i can show my kids dads car you know when i was young.. EG pluses.... great swap potential but just i think that everyone loves the ef i mean if you see clean you just cant help but love it..plus the funability of the ef yeeeeee fuckinnnnnnnng hawwwwwww

i think the Ef are actually more refined than the EGs. Ever been in a low mileage ef? they drive better than EGs IMO, less rattles and creaks.
the interior looks better in a EG but once you get over that you notice how much better put together the EF interior is. (less loose pieces, more solid)
i own a 94 integra and im sellin it ....all i can think about it a clean low mileage EF
another thing to keep in mind is that the EG and Eks were built around the EFs (80% the same parts). honda really got it right the first try.

the EF's are really starting to show their age appearance wise, which is kind of a cool thing... makes them a little different.
over all i like my EG more...
but i still got love for EF's.
