Default Cleaning Type R Valve Cover

Does anyone know the best way to clean a red type r valve cover? I know that some cleaning substances will dry the red layer and cause it to peel after a while. How do you type r owners keep your valve covers clean?

if you are going to use simple green, make sure you dilute the **** out of it or it will strip of the red crinkle paint. I personally use just plain soap and water and then top it off with Armorall, but armorall is a dirt magnet so your purty red valve cover will only stay that way for about a week.

Once the valve cover is clean apply tire shine using a cloth. Don't be shy with the application. I'll do this a couple times a year and it really brings out the red in the valve cover and prevents the paint from drying out. It handles the heat well too.

Yeah, it sounds a little shady but I've been doing it for two years and it still looks new. Trust me on this guys.

65,000+ miles and it still looks like this...

Haha, I think that I actually loosened the oil cap for that picture so the *MUGEN* name was aligned properly.

Do you think any brand of tire shine will work? Or do you use a specific brand? There is foam and gel tire shine out there....

The question IS, does the legit Mugen oil cap fit the Mugen replica valve cover correctly? I guess this would be the best test to see if they really are that good of a copy. I wonder...

I've used a couple different brands in the clear spray bottle type (not aerosol) - they both work fine. I don't recommend using the foam type.

I just popped the logo thing off and re-glued it in the correct orientation. I was a bit annoyed after paying $74 for my JDM bling that it wasn't lined up.

I just use a steam cleaner. But if you don't have a few grand to spend, use the simple green.

I just use armor all and wipe down the valve cover.

Only problem with wiping down the valve cover is if you rub too hard you sand down the crinkle paint.

My valve cover is smooth as hell!

I used Castrol Engine Degreaser. That worked great, the dirt just ran off while I was hosing down the valve cover. If you use it though, be sure to cover any stainless steel parts (i.e. Strut bar), it'll leave permanent stains. They look like water marks.

Simple Green, a tooth brush (an old one), and elbow grease works for me.
