As if the state needed another good road course:

Scott, who loves the Pacific Northwest...I just need more money, time, and a really big transporter...

NorCal is definately getting a boost...you have the recent improvements to Sears Point(30-1 hour from the Bay Area), Laguna Seca new paddock eventually(1-2 hours from the Bay Area), the new tower at Thunderhill(2 hours from teh Bay Area), the new and still being built Reno/Fernley raceway(3 hours from the Bay Area), and now this raceway in Merced County(1 hour from the Bay Area)...hell Buttonwillow is only 3 hours from the Bay Area.

Very nice...living in the North Bay travel time is a little different, Sears=30 minutes, Laguna=3.5 hours, THill=2 hours, Reno=3 hours, Merced=2.75 hours, and Buttonwillow=5 hours.

Looks like it's there will soon be 6 tracks within 5 hours drive, and 8 tracks within 7 hours drive

Austin

p.s. Scott...when are you moving down j/k

i'm currently living about 45 minutes south of LA, in orange county;

35 minutes from California Speedway
1.5 hours from Willow Springs (where all the magazines & speedchannel shows test stuff)
2.0 hours from Buttonwillow Raceway

0.5 hours from the surf
1.0 hours from snow over half the year
3.5 hours from vegas (less than 1 hour if you fly)
20 mins from disneyland
5 skateparks within 30 minutes drive
2 minute walk to 7-11

and did i mention that it never rains!

-chuck, who is still trying to figure out which jedi mind trick his wife used to convince him to move back to long island next year

How far are all these tracks from long beach? When I visit someone out there, I plan on seeing some tracks.

Everything looks good on paper. Lets see what they work on first. Will it be the ovals, or the road course or the drag strip. I did not see a place holder for the autocross community. They have been holding the pro solo events in that area for years. By the time I get return home to NorCal the place might be ready for me to get back into racing.

hurray. more whoring opportunities for me. there is a new track at willow springs too! very recently completed. mainly designed for motorcycles but will allow cars. looks like a good drift practice site!

Yep, I remember seeing that track when I was at "The Streets of Willow" a few weeks ago. Nobody that I talked to could tell me what track it was, so I assumed it was brand spankin new. Looks really cool too, lots of elevation change, it's right at the base of a mountain. That 180 deg. turn to the far left of the pic is probably several hundred feet higher than the pit lane at the bottom. And since I'm moving to Palmdale soon, it will probably be my second home.
