Can the legendary ITR out handle the fire breathing Supra?
What do you guys think? is it possible? Which car would be more superior on a road track, the Supra or the R?
I was wondering because I feel intimediated by one, the supra that is.

yoshi,et al dusted a supra's time yesterday at the auto-x(however, the course had lots of turns and not much straight runs---advantage R)
The Supra is kinda bulky looking type car. But very very fast in the straights. But wasn't it last built here in like 96 models..and then nothing after. I believe the ones over in Japan were build until around 99 MOY.
Plus Toyota always made special SS super strut ones basically ones that are better at handling curves then the normal Supra.
If I had the money I would buy one I always like the way that car looked like space shuttle from some reason. And it still doesn't look really out of date even today.

koy,
nice of you to come all the way out from AZ yesterday
I think it would depend on what kind of road course, but only one way to find out

ran them back to back... The supra kicks the **** out of the R with the same driver per se... that is except on tight tracks where shear acceleration means nothing and then the R shines...
Unless you are talking about tracks where the Supra will not fit, then forget about it. Equal drivers (moderate skill level or above) the Supra wins every time. The combination of ultimate grip, acceleration, and adequate manners make the Supra superior no matter the track.
I consider myself to be an above average driver in my R, and my times get smoked by an excellent local driver in a Supra not matter the Auto X course, surface, shape, size............Supra wins
The Supra can fit Hoosier 315/35 tires in back and 275/35 tires up front. This is a case where power and traction will outgun the lightweight and nimbleness that the R has.

I took my friend out in the R last week. He has a modded TT Supra putting down in the neigborhood of 400rwhp, and he commented that the R handled amazingly in a corner that he and I both drive every day. I took the corner hard, and he said that is as fast as he could get the Supra to take that corner comfortably. I told him I was taking it easy. Might have had something to do with the S-03s
He runs S-02s on the Supra.

Things appear much different when you are in the passenger seat.
Did you ever ride shotgun on an Auto-X course.....some of the most heart-stopping moments I have had.

Someone please shoot me.....
I love my R to death. I could not imagine purchasing a more purpose built machine for ~$25,000.
Almost everything about is designed with one intention in mind........going fast on a road course. It is truly a gem of a machine.
But come on.......get your freakin head out of your ***.
The SCCA knows a little something about a car's overall handling potential in stock form. Granted the R has been misplaced in GS (which will be moved into the revised DS class next year), but the Supra TT is a SS car. Even in the relatively tight confines of an Auto-X course (tighter course should be to Rs advantage right?) the R does not compete.
Would I ever buy a Supra......probably not..........would I ever tell a competent Supra TT driver that he will be looking at my taillights.......hell no.
Wise Up

i guess a standard TT Supra is nothing to write home about but a mildly to heavily modified one i can see giving the type-R the smackdown on a road circuit.
Totally depends on the track and the driver. The fellow I crew for has a 2001 Z-06 'vette as a daily driver. He races 2 Porsche 911's and a 550 hp GT-1 road car. He's got 47 years of racing experience. He also used to own the R that is now mine.
A couple of years ago at an airport lapping session he ran a bunch of hot laps in the R, then took a friend's C-5 'vette out. It ran slower laps than the R. Long sweepers the R is a killer 'cos it's so light. As long as the straights aren't too long, it's hard to beat the balance of an R. At the same session was an NSX and an M roadster. Neither of them were able to keep up with Jack in the R either, though some of that is driver...

I drove a 94 TT with 405rwhp (dyno sheets, not bullshit), and yeah it was quick, with the 295s in the back yes it stuck, yes you could go around turns fast. But I'll be damned if my R isn't a hell of a lot more fun to drive. I mean the Supra may blow us away number wise, but you can never put a figure to the "fun to drive" factor. Which is why I love my R, and I always love my old school 911.
Guys, you kidding right?...
The Type-R gearing is perfect, dude you know this... the power delivery is the best I see. The limited slip provides excellent traction, the brake are strong and tires are sticky other Type-R owner know what I’m talking about. Supra would get smoke on a road track. That’s why the guys in KILL FORUMS that don’t own a Type-R wouldn’t understand. I’m not trying to be a DICK here. That’s just FACT……..

I didn't say that my friend said my car handled better than his Supra, I said he commented on how well it DOES handle. We can take the same turn (with relatively the same driving skill level) at about the same speed.
I also never said I would BEAT a Supra, certainly not in a straight line, but our cars are closer than you think handling wise.
Track times, given the same driver, the Supra will win.
I also have a friend ( has a GSR w/ JDM B18C5, 4-1, Mugen Twin loop, mugen ECU, Apex N1 coilovers, race tires) who raced with a 450RWHP Supra friend of ours at Laguna Seca, and he was able to keep up everywhere but the straights, so YES our cars do a great job.

Ok guy's, I have read almost all of Bozoitr's post's. I have decided that he should be treated no better than the most annoying Troll on this board. He has a wonderful endency of shooting himself in the foot, I for one am now going to ignore everything he says.
Hey John,
When I raced with Dan at LSIR, he was running stock boost on crappy nittos up front that were almost at the wear bar.
I was on RA1 race slicks. And if you ever drove with Dan, you'll realize how much better he has gotten handling his supra.
Now that he is running some prokits w/konis and newer (but still crappy) re730's his car handles muuuch better. I bet half the
people who own supras don't even realize how much you can push that car handling wise. It'll be fun to see what happens this sept at Thunderhill (if i can get off the wainting list cause dumbasses there loose the faxed registrations) when I go up against him and his roomate in a modded rx7 on ra1's also. I plan to get smoked, i may get around dan (very unlikely) if they let me pass in the turns, but it is doubtfull since scca handles the street school and they are wussies as far as letting you pass.
As far as supra handling, it pretty much rocks. ITR"s are great, but there is no way you can take that much more speed in a turn to compare the speed a supra can come out of. (not talking about straightaways, but the acceleration while exiting and also factoring the speed a supra can take in a turn)
