out of ideas...getting pissed off
For the last few months, whenever I turn the steering wheel left or right I've been hearing crazy squeaking. The same happens, albeit a slightly different squeaking sound, when I creep to a stop or start moving slowly. I've changed all wheel bearings, front control arm bushings etc and I can't rid my car of that horrible *** sound. Any suggestions? Also, I've been hearing a clanging/rattling sound under the car whenever I hit a bump. It's loud, extremely irritating and embarassing when going over bumps. I was thinking that it could be any number of heat shields under the car? HELP?
Did you check for broken front coil spring(s)?
The rattle could be caused by heat shields as you suggest. You just have to get under there and give the exhaust system a thorough inspection.

mmm i just had the shocks/springs replaced as well.... but i'll definitely give the exhaust system a thorough check....
any ideas about the squeaking with the steering wheel turns and bumps?

My car used to rattle a lot whenever i would be at idle or in a drive thru or somethin' and it finally drove me insane, so I got under the car, took off my heat shields from the cat, all the way to the flange, and noticed their were a bunch of little pebbles and rocks that would rattle in between the exhaust pipe and the shield. So I cleaned those out, and put the shields back on. About a month later, the rattling started again, because rocks and pebbles got in there again. So I just said screw the heat shields and left them off. My car wasn't super slammed, so I seldom scraped the pipe on bumps... My friend who works as a Honda mechanic said that the heat shields aren't extremely necessary, so I tossed 'em... I never did hear that rattling again. Unfortunately, I crashed the car and now I'm hoofin' it...

turn your car off and let teh sucker cool down and then hit the exhaust lightly with a hammer and see if you see anything moving or hear rattling. I've got 2 or 3 heat shields that rattle like a ***** and i checked them out to see if i could fix them but the bolts rusted and i figure the sheilds need to be welded down cuz there nothing where the bolts used to go through
why would his exhaust cause squeeking when turning?? on my grand am it squeeks just like you are describing, its the rack and pinion going out.
sweet thanks guys, i'll present my mechanic with these options and have them checked out...not before i give it a look tho
heh
could it be anything to do with the steering column...seems like it sstarts squeakin the min i turn the wheel.

Try these two things:
1. You have power steering and the rack is at full capacity, and that's basically telling you to let off.
2. Check your fender wells. My ef rubs the tires on the frame rails. It's done it since I've owned it.

Little Bondo and your set! j/k
Regarding that noise up front, see if your radius rod bushings are all good, and tight.

yeah i talked to a guy at kung fu last night and he thought that it could be resulting from a hung-up caliper or something and that they might also be causing the rattling noise
i'll have to check on that too
but i'll keep you posted for sure
