Comptech on a Leased Car??
Hello,
I am leasing a 2001 Milano Red GSR, and was curious about using aftermarket parts. I heard somewhere that I can use Comptech parts, and not break my lease agreement. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks,
- Joe

What leasing company are you going through? Leasing agencys don't typically notice minor modifications. I lease Fords through many different lease companys and they never mention minor mods. When you mention Comptech, what mods are you considering? In all actuality the mods only really become an issue if you return the vehicle, if you sell it, trade it or buy it, it's a moot point.

I'm leasing through American Honda Finance...
The Comptech mods I was considering were first, Comptech ICEBOX, probably using stock tubing, unless someone can point out an advantage of using their intake pipe. (aside from aesthetics)
After that, I was probably going to do header, then exhaust.
I would also like to lower the car a bit, because I like the 15" GSR rims, but the fender gap is kind of ridiculous. This isn't a big issue, but it's something that will probably come up in the future. I have this car for 4 years, and at the end of the lease, I'll have the option to buy the car for 10 grand.
I was thinking that I could sell a 4 year old GSR with 48k miles for a little more than 10 grand, so I was probably going to buy it at the end of the lease, to sell it. I just don't want to lose the option of just giving it back, if I can't seem to sell it. I'm sure in 4 years, I'll be wanting a different car. (crossing fingers: low mileage '98 Supra TT)
If I did decide to modify it, regardless of the lease restrictions, and I took it in for service, could there be any repercussions?
Thanks for your help.

man, this board moves fast... I'm going to try to keep this one near the top, so if I annoy anyone with that, let me know, and I'll stop. I'm just really interested in finding this info out.
I do not do leases through american honda finance, but I'm sure that they are pretty much like everone else.
Intake - probably won't notice. You could always keep to stock intake and swap back at term.
Header - They would never notice.
Exhaust - hard to miss, they might take issue. If you got a cat back system you could always swap at term.
Lowering - hard to miss, again they might take issue. Coil overs would let you go back to stock ride height at term and they wouldn't notice.
Servicing - The service dept. would have no idea if the vehicle in being financed or leased. Your only concern with them is if any of your mods voids your factory warranty.
In all actuallity, any mods that you do as a bolt on can be replaced with stock parts at lease term and the leasing company would have no knowledge of it.

Mine's leased except for a 3 year term.
I can buy mine at the end for $12,500 and I plan to do so and sell it then...I'm thinking the car will be worth significantly more than $12,500 since it's worth about $16K now and 98's are $13.5-15K.
I never even thought about what Chase would think. Its not like they are ever going to see the car unless I turn it in, in which case it would be back to stock.

I'm about to turbo my leased Teg, and I've already had it SC'd. When would the lease company ever see the car any way? I am through American Honda Finance by the way.

thats the spirit.. turbo a leased car.. hehehe who ever i run into and tell them i'm fixing up a leased car they freak out.. aint nothing wrong with it.. i never plan on taking mine back to the dealer anyways.. after 2 yrs.. or if i decide to keep it for 3 i will sell it private.. and pay the dealer back that will be happy to get cash.. or i can simply take it all off and bring it back. All i'm puting on are simple bolt ons that will not affect the cars exterior features on affect the motor in anyway.. i will still get the car serviced at the local acura dealer that sold me the car..
I never even considered turbo, or S/C for a leased car.
I probably won't go anywhere near that far, but I'm at least encouraged to modify it, slightly, if nothing else.
Am I being unreasonable, expecting to be able to sell the car for a lot more than 10k in 4 years? I figure I could easily get 13-15k out of it... but I could be wrong.

I guess time will tell on the value of the car.
Either way, nobody is discouraging me from modifying the car, so it looks like I will. Yay!
