87 gas in b16 crx
i f*cked up....lol
when i did my swap i wasnt planning on doing it, i actually changed the single cam's water pump but then jumped timing, so i redid the timing and the car wouldnt start so i just decided to do the b16 swap that i had been wanting to do so i did it....anyways when i took the single cam out it had a full tank of 87 gas and now that the car is finished i dont wanna really drive with the 87 in it but i dont want to suck the 87 out ...
so my question is would the motor be ok to drive on 87 for a full tank without messing it up?

Yeh, the original poster is in Cali and 91 is as high as it gets...their emissions =
We get 93 at every pump and theres 2 out at the beaches for some 100+

I was getting a consistent 25-28mpg a tank in my b16 rex for a while and have been doing only city/highway driving (no track). I then decided that if my fuel mileage is going to be low I should jet get 89 and save money... Turned out that with the 89 octane in my car I'm getting consitent 29-31mpg per tank.
I think 89 is good city/highway octane but if you go to the track or go on a road trip then you should get the 91+
BTW: Another thing that changed my gas mileage was my ingition timing. Very advanced I got 32mpg but I brought it back to 0 and I lost 3-4mpg bringing me down to 28 or lower.
Edit: I'm meticulous in keeping records of every mile to every gallon of gas that goes in my tank. You can tell alot about your car by it's fluctuations or lack there of in fuel mileage.

the octane has nothing to do with wether or not you have Vtec... The B16's Compression ratio is so High lower octain fuels have a better chance of detonation before the spark... A High C/R motor with out vtec will run just as shitty on lower octain as a Vtec motor would...
octane boost doesnt do anything. you know how it says "boosts octane 2 points" or 5 points or whatever. a "point" is a tenth of an octane. so you can fill half your tank with octane boost and you will still have 87 octane.
just run the car and get some 93 when you can. it will be fine.

I would avoid octane boost. Alot of octane boosters contain MMT, which can destroy your catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensor (resulting in failed smog tests and the need to replace it). And just because an octane boost does not say it has MMT, this does not mean that it doesn't have any. Your best bet? Drive the car gently until you burn up the 87 octane gas. And then use premium. You can also dilute the 87 octane gas down with premium fuel as it is used.
