Someone should start a post for best hack job on rear plastic. That's what's keeping me from getting a rear strut bar...fear of the hack.

Just cut/drill carefully, you can't even tell my panels have been cut for my rear strut bar unless you look real close:

Well, I guess the shape of the strut bar makes a difference too in how much you will need to cut the plastic...

no flex on mounting points like the ones that protrude up.
I doubt you will even notive the difference. Plus, I would think it would be easier to make if it's flat

Cutting out the rear panel is pretty easy. All you need is a dremel tool. And to finish, get some door edge guard moldings (pepboys, autozone..etc) and put them around the cut edges. And try to cut AS LITTLE AS possible.
Here's a pic of before I put the door edge guard moldings on. Notice I cut it a little too big.
