hi
I am doing a LSD into my 00 si tranny. I have a small problem now. When I went to honda to get the shims for the tranny they told me that they have 2 different sizes and like 8 varations on how thick? How do I know which one to use? Like I said its a 00 Si tranny with the CTR LSD w/ 98 ITR Final driven gear(ring gear)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Old broke *** differential vs. the new CTR LSD
this is where the shim should be
diff inside the tranny..(without shim) just making sure it fits.

the procedure is described in the helms manual, it's not hard to do just follow the instructions. i don't have the manual, if i did, i would descrive the procedure. good luck!

I kinda know how to install it, I have the honda service manual for a 96 del sol which has the b16 in it and goes into detail, but i don't know how to figure out that size shim goes in there. They have a list of different thicknesses and I read somewhere online that you have to like assemble the tranny with just the lsd in there and measure the gap from the diff to the tranny case with a feeler gauge but I don't get exactly how and if thats right.
by the way : The lsd was from Japandy from ebay and i think i got it for like 390 shipped from japan, then the ring gear from Acura was i think like another 200. Plus new bolts another $30.

Put the diff in the case, and bolt the 2 halves together. Make sure the diff is fully seated into the housing on one side (bearing is bottomed out). Flip the case over, and take out the axle seal. Now slide the feeler gauge in between the diff case and the bearing. Start with a .010" feeler. If that won't go in, try the .005". If that goes in, move up to the .006", and so on till it won't go in anymore. The feeler should slide in as far as the outside diameter of the bearing. If it doesn't go in that far, then you're not sliding it in in the right place. If the .005" won't go in, then go down in .001" steps till it does.
Make sure you take out the shim that is already in there before you start this. Or check the clearance with your current shim stack, and if its within factory tolerance, you're good to go.

Well damnit... I'm in trouble again, I got a chance to take a stab at this thing and I got nothing. Son of a bitch.

I can't even fit a feeler gauge in it.

HOW THE HELL??? IM soo screwed

make sure you correctly torque down the tranny bolts. That is the key. Too tight and the diff won't even move, too loose and you'll have too much clearance. I don't remember what the manual says- 20 lb/ft??, but make sure that is where you are at or else you'll have problems throughout the whole process.

u use a feeler guage not a plasti-guage...thats how u mesure it for cleareance

u got the new final drive from acura..? did u get a gsr..? u should of gotten the final drive that goes w. the CTR lsd..and u need the correct imput shaft to go w. that final drive too..gl

hmm man.. this is soo hard to explain. Yea I bought the new ring gear from acura its a gsr/type-r (they're the same) . But I mean I fit everything in there , gears and all fit but its just im missing that one shim. But there's two shims that go in there. There's one that goes in the side where the clutch would attach to and then one on the other side. From the pics you can see that I need the one on the clutch side. Problem is where I need the feeler to go the piece of the diff sticks out blocking me from getting in there. GRR soo frustrating.
I just put an ITR LSD in my '00 B16 tranny. I didn't bother w/ any kind of "shim", just a direct replacement of differentials. I did this about 5-6k miles ago & no problems whatsoever.

Try this: remove all the shims, then use the feeler gauge to find your tolerance. The advantage to that is you can feel how it goes all the way in past the bearing's inner race. To get it to slide in to that space, push the feeler gauge agains the end of the diff and "aim" the tip into between the bearing and case.
